The Pretenders set was great, Chrissie’s voice is so recognisable and was still very strong as well. Marr playing on all but 2 songs gave it a little boost and then Grohl on the drums was boss, I think he played that song about 20bpm too fast, the band were frantically trying to keep up at the beginning.

Astley and Blossoms was another top set.

Didn’t watch Arctic Monkeys, can’t stand them.

GNR we’re atrocious, it wasn’t just Axl’s voice, Slash was hiding a lot of mistakes with his speed and Duff is an awful bass player at the best of times. The rythym guitar player was the only one that played a consistent show.

Elton’s set was really good, every song was hit and the crowd knew every word. That’s what you want from your headliners. Didn’t mind his guests, but giving a full song to that Steven Sanchez fella was odd. Elton’s voice actually held up, I’ve heard him recently and it was very weak. Not as good as it was like.

Foos we’re awesome on Friday.

Watched all of Barrington Levy’s set on the West Holts stage yesterday, Jamaican reggae master from the 80s and 90s. That was a good set to have a little dance to.

Cat Stevens’ set was really good as well.

Gonna catch up on Queens of the Stone Age now.

Overall, I thought it was a poor weekend.

Completely wrong venue for people in the twilight of their careers. McCartney is 80 and Elton not far behind. If they were physically up to it then no problem. I'm not falling into that ageist trap. However, generally speaking, you feel yourself reaching a bit for these people trying to work an audience of 200,000 people when they are way past their peak vocal and movement wise.

It's truly bizarre seeing these people dragging their carcasses around and still attempting to get away with it. It's pure patronisation to say they can still offer a great couple of hours entertainment. They cant.
Whom do you suggest should headline then?

Guns n Roses was an odd pick. If you had a more modern act in their place then I think the 3 headliners would be fine.

Yeah you are probably right, I don't think I've even seen a pic of them apart from Slash since the 90's. They sounded loads worse than I remembered but seem to get away with it cos 'this is rock and roll, you youngsters'

I agree with nearly all of that apart from the last line mate. The Pyramid headliners, with the obvious exception of Elton, may not have been up to scratch, but you can't judge a whole festival on that score alone. In addition to the numerous acts you mentioned, there must have been at least a dozen sets that were, in my opinion, fantastic. And many more over the weekend that were at least watchable. The majority of the sets I loved were from bands I've never heard of (I'm an old fart totally out of touch by the way) and I know I'm going to be battering YouTube over the next few months catching up on my new favourite acts.

Going to catch up on a few sets I missed from yesterday before giving my final verdict, but overall I'd say the weekend get's a big thumbs up. Something for everyone which i think is the way it should be.

Taylor swift has a gap in her European tour, so there is a good chance it will be her. someone in here said outkast might be reforming - they'd be perfect
That was me. Been reading some more and it looks unlikely. :(

Emily evis has apparently confirmed next year will have 2 female headliners. My money is on Pink and Taylor swift.

Get in the bin

I seemed to be watching 200,000 really enjoying themselves last night - and the sentiment seemed to be largely the same throughout this thread

I used to be 100% sure that you were a contrarian WUM - but now i'm 110% sure

Are you serioulsy comparing Elton John at the top of his game with that waddling and warbling mess last night?

Pffffft!

Yeah, it's being a "WUM" to point out that obvious difference.

It's sentimental old tosh to suggest that Glastonbury gains by having these people on the Pyramid stage prime slot time. By all means shove them on the Park Stage or wherever for a slot, but they cant carry the burden of a headline act.

But they literally did!

The evidence is right there in front of you!

Not my thing by any means but it seems it was loved by all in attendance and those who watched it so they quite literally offered a great couple of hours of entertainment!
It's all media spin.

They did this last time after McCartney who could barely bang a song out that was recognisable from his peak.

Join in the national myth making if you want, but I see septuagenarians who should never headline Glastonbury.

Give Emily Eavis a bell or call in and have a word, sure she'll be all ears.
She's at...
Worthy Farm, Worthy Ln, Pilton, Shepton Mallet BA4 4BY
If you're ever passing that way.

Elton had the crowd in the palm of his hand for the 2 hours.

I've never seen a crowd like that before, so the people who paid to go to the festival clearly wanted to watch Elton. And that speaks for itself.
Because they all will it to be a communion. The will is there to reach out and embrace these old headline acts. That's a whole different matter to the quality of what they knock out now though.

Personally...and I've never been an uber fan of theirs...I thought the best 'old time' act on Glastonbury this year were the Manic Street Preachers. 'kin ell, there's some bangers in that set of theirs that would be electric on the Pyramid Stage 9-11 Saturday or Sunday night.
