Oh behave - Elton John and McCartney are two of the very few artists who should be headlining Glastonbury. Can't hack a 90 minute set? That's weird, because I just watched Elton John play 21 hit singles in a row over 2 hours.

Come back to me when Kendrick Lemar can do that

Completely wrong venue for people in the twilight of their careers. McCartney is 80 and Elton not far behind. If they were physically up to it then no problem. I'm not falling into that ageist trap. However, generally speaking, you feel yourself reaching a bit for these people trying to work an audience of 200,000 people when they are way past their peak vocal and movement wise.

It's truly bizarre seeing these people dragging their carcasses around and still attempting to get away with it. It's pure patronisation to say they can still offer a great couple of hours entertainment. They cant.

Get in the bin

I seemed to be watching 200,000 really enjoying themselves last night - and the sentiment seemed to be largely the same throughout this thread

I used to be 100% sure that you were a contrarian WUM - but now i'm 110% sure

But they literally did!

The evidence is right there in front of you!

Not my thing by any means but it seems it was loved by all in attendance and those who watched it so they quite literally offered a great couple of hours of entertainment!

I’d agree with you on McCartney definitely!
But last night, if you watched the whole thing(?), there was not a chance that EJ was “attempting to get away with it or “trying to work an audience of 200,000 people, he absolutely nailed both!
He may be not at his peak vocally, but still a damn sight better than his contemporaries McCartney or Mr R Stewart Esq, but that was still some show he put on last night - his legs may not move like they once did but them fingers on that keyboard certainly did!

Watch Elton John from last night and them tell me he can't do it.
He made an absolute mockery of current icons The Arctic Monkeys offering from Friday.
He was, by far, the stand out performance of the weekend.

Past it?

Nah, not on last nights showimg

it's important to be relevant still though, and they will be aware of that too - there are so many festivals now and this one is very expensive
Elton is definitely still relevant. Just look at the crowd he had for his set, and look at the crowds at the other stages that were on at the same time.

That set was pure entertainment, and that's ultimately why you go to listen to music. Only a handful of artists in the world have that sort of hit list where people can sing along from start to finish. That was the definition of a headline performance, and I don't think his age matters in the slightest. I was born about 20 years after Elton was at his peak and I thought it was great.

That was an absolute masterclass on how to work an audience at a gig.
Superb from start to finish
