Glasto 2023

Completely wrong venue for people in the twilight of their careers. McCartney is 80 and Elton not far behind. If they were physically up to it then no problem. I'm not falling into that ageist trap. However, generally speaking, you feel yourself reaching a bit for these people trying to work an audience of 200,000 people when they are way past their peak vocal and movement wise.

It's truly bizarre seeing these people dragging their carcasses around and still attempting to get away with it. It's pure patronisation to say they can still offer a great couple of hours entertainment. They cant.
Elton had the crowd in the palm of his hand for the 2 hours.

I've never seen a crowd like that before, so the people who paid to go to the festival clearly wanted to watch Elton. And that speaks for itself.

Elton is definitely still relevant. Just look at the crowd he had for his set, and look at the crowds at the other stages that were on at the same time.

That set was pure entertainment, and that's ultimately why you go to listen to music. Only a handful of artists in the world have that sort of hit list where people can sing along from start to finish. That was the definition of a headline performance, and I don't think his age matters in the slightest. I was born about 20 years after Elton was at his peak and I thought it was great.

I didn't watch him and i'm not really interested in doing so, but i don't think there is nothing wrong with having one 'legacy' act each year - and he fits the bill and i'm sure he would have been easily the best out of the three

but this year, there seems to have been 3 'legacy' acts. I didn't have AM as one at all, but i don't really how many of their fans didn't like their newer stuff so they kind of are now too.

Looking back on it, this years headliners was a massive step back. they pretty much had 3 acts where people wanted to hear songs they realised 20+ years ago, give or take

A massive popstar (Taylor Swift), a hiphop type person, and fleetwood mac would work next year

Guns n Roses was an odd pick. If you had a more modern act in their place then I think the 3 headliners would be fine.

Been going to gigs/concerts/festivals since I was a kid, a good 40 years worth, done Glasto 11 times, Queen at Roundhay Park, Live Aid, Floyd at Maine Rd and many many more.
Freddie Mercury at Live Aid aside, that was probably the best gig/set/owning of a crowd I've ever watched. The crowd numbers were astonishing, never seen numbers like that before at a Glasto set.
Like I said, it was a masterclass. Up there with the best.

Watch Elton John from last night and them tell me he can't do it.
He made an absolute mockery of current icons The Arctic Monkeys offering from Friday.
He was, by far, the stand out performance of the weekend.

Past it?

Nah, not on last nights showimg
I mean he IS past it. Of course he is. He's an old man!

That doesnt mean he can't pull off a brilliant set from time to time like he did last night.

His role is to entertain those watching and he did that in spades.

Says you.

200k last night would disagree and pretty much everyone on this thread disagrees as well.
