Looking back on it, this years headliners was a massive step back. they pretty much had 3 acts where people wanted to hear songs they realised 20+ years ago, give or take

A massive popstar (Taylor Swift), a hiphop type person, and fleetwood mac would work next year
Will Fleetwood Mac continue to play live after Christine Mc passed ?

The only others I could think of who have the back catalogue to pull off Glastonbury headline slot are Rage Against the Machine and The Proclaimers.

Don't know where this guy is getting the Pretenders from, I think he's on a wind up. Or a hynde up anyway.

There were rumours of Eminem headlining before the line ups were announced. The rock purists probably wouldn’t approve, but reckon that would be a great show to see.

Understandable what people say about all the oldies headlining though. I thought GnR were great despite Axl’s voice being shot. But then again I am a massive fan.

The formula of having a classic (older) act, an established artist and someone more contemporary headline the Pyramid stage across the weekend would be the best balance imo.

Madonna.

Maybe Genesis.

Is this a wind up?

Back on the chain gang
Brass in pocket
Stop your sobbing
Talk of the Town
I'll stand by you
Kid
2000 miles
Thin line between love and hate
Hymn to her
I go to sleep

...shove in a couple of UB40 hits and that'll give you a 90 minute set.
Wonderful thing Google 👍!

If people like Elton aren't headlining the Sunday who is? Modern day music is crap live.

Rubbish this mate.

So many great acts, spanning all genres that can headline Glastonbury.

I would say anyone who thinks modern day music is rubbish live probably isnt into music that much to take notice of any good new acts coming up.

Elton John and all the other "greats" is just event TV. It would be nice if one of the nights we got something different like and an upcoming act, or a band that's been grown in popularity over the years.

Seems like they just want megastars to headline these days.

It's become a victim of its own size, needing these bloated, superannuated stadium rockers every year.

In 1995 when Pulp stepped in for The Stone Roses at the last minute, did anyone think "Hermmmm, have they got the back catalogue for it....?"

They did one of the most legendary headline sets on that stage that there's ever been. It was the making of them.

Perhaps they need to think about moving away from these massive legacy acts, because honestly, they're running out of them.

That was me. Been reading some more and it looks unlikely. :(

Emily evis has apparently confirmed next year will have 2 female headliners. My money is on Pink and Taylor swift.

I don't think I ever realise how big pink is, she seems to be huge. Always one of the top played on Spotify

It's a bit of a strange one with the Manics

They were probably the biggest British rock/alternative/indie band around the turn of the century - but, as you say, they consistently continued releasing new music since then - and the number of people buying it has dwindled (despite it being some of their finest stuff - both 'Journal for Plague Lovers' and 'Send Away the Tigers' are great albums)

There's a bit of a "Show us your setlist before we book you" about the situation. If they were to play

Motorcycle Emptiness
You Love Us
A Design for Life
From Despair to Where
Faster
Suicide is Painless
Kevin Carter
Everything Must Go
Your Love Alone is not Enough
Australia
If you Tolerate this...
You Stole the sun
The Masses against the Classes
The Everlasting
Motown Junk

Who would really argue that they shoudn't be in that Arctic Monkeys slot?

There's a few others missed off the list.

They could have 100% headlined and it would have went off.

Seems to be a reluctance to have guitar bands headlining now, or even given prominent spots which is a shame.

Of course they could headline, and I would thoroughly enjoy it.

Nobody would be talking about it the next day though which is the issue.

It's a corporate event, all about the money and the media.
