Goats squad analysis thread 2021/22

I'm not overly concerned about the size of the squad compared to previous seasons, there has been many threads on here listing the poor players that werent even warming the bench just stealing a living.

Its the depth of the squad, we have no options from the bench, which we have seen recently. Even West Ham have better options to change a game.

We need an over haul of all but 2 midfielders, improved attacking options and back up for DCL.

I agree with the OP's summary in general, no daft knee jerk statements and pretty much bang on.

Defensively I think we're ok if the players in front of them can hold the ball and go forward a touch more, so yes I'd like to see an injection in the summer of a proven midfielder or 2.

For me though and just crying to be addressed is the striker/strikers spot. Just in the past few weeks we've had games where we've had chances to take all the points but the quite straight forward chances have been horrifically squandered.

If Pickford needs strong competition then surely and even more importantly so does DCL. He is the automatic first choice/only choice on the team sheet week in week out whether he's in a purple patch or not which is not healthy.

Also the bench is crying out for a striker to come on with a genuine chance of changing a game, a luxury we've not had for way too long now.

Just a natural proven striker or 2 please in the summer, don't have to be up and coming 24 year old superstars either..........quality nearing the end of their careers would do. We'd be 4th or 5th now with an ageing Cavani on the books I'm certain.

I know it's a bit of chicken and egg with Europe, but I would seriously worry about our ability to play across 4 competitions with this squad.
We'd struggle to get a PL season out of them.

It's top to bottom tat. And there's people here still arguing the case that we retain the recruiters of this tat.

Out of those 7 midfielders, 5 need to go.
Out if those 5 wide players 3 need to go.
Out if those 3 strikers 2 need to go. Unless Kean is going to stay and try and make an impact, but that looks unlikely.

makes you realise exactly how bad this squad is.

I think in reality the most first team players we can get in a summer is 3-4. RB, CM and RW has to be the priority, with CF and GK, next. Any decent recruiter would be all over the likes of Romero from Utd, in order to get him in early doors. The RB situation has been ongoing for 3-4 seasons, which again you’d hope would be sorted as soon as the window opens. The rest of the positions will be more difficult you’d think, unless there are decent free transfers available; or Carlo has someone in mind he can tap up.

If people don't want Europe we may aswel give up. We wont have THIS squad next season. Some will be moved on and others who will start in the first 11 brought in (expect 4 in if we sell Kean) I expect younger lads to be integrated into the squad too which may see 1 or even 2 really step up. Carlo is use to playing twice a week, its how he works. Its all about progress. Others teams in the league like WH and Leicester need to cope too and doubt their fans are saying its too soon. Wait another year, attract less better players and our better players leave. That's what not getting into Europe will do
