Golf 2022....

Will Zalatoris had a shocker of a third round there. Hope he can pull it back later.
His flatstick is the reason he's top 30 rather than top 5. It is...not good. Fantastic ball striker.

Some absolutely sublime shots on the back 9, but that consistency over 4 rounds is just not there.
On fire to start the day today as well.

By the way, saying nice things about the RS did not work. What did work was telling my son that City had three goals in five minutes in them right before they did it. He loathes City. He was not amused. ?

Rory deciding he wants to make it interesting again. I’m backing Young to take it today. Just so controlled recently. Think he’ll shoot a steady round while others might fall apart. Just hope it’s tight at the end though.

This has been a series of car crashes unfolding in slow motion. I can't recall ever seeing the leaders all hit this many water balls, much less a guy getting into a playoff with an Obi-Wan (OK, really an unplayable, but still) in the final round. Hats off to JT for clawing back a seven stroke deficit.

Feel for the lad, but this has been a mess of a hole.

Rory will be kicking himself this week. Got to -4 with with 12 holes left and didn't make another birdie. And that awful triple yesterday too.

Shame for Fitzpatrick that he couldn't just be a bit more solid, an even par day would have won it, in the end. Looked desperately gutted but a very honest and calm interview afterwards, you have to feel a win on US soil is going to come soon. McIIroy can still take positives out of the week, thought he was a bit unlucky on the greens today, a few mid to long range putts just scraping the edge of the hole. Short irons are definitely improving week on week.

Fair play to Thomas, a couple of times now, in his career, he has just seemingly ambled along and then somehow ended up right up there. Great clutch player as well, has a very calm demeanour when he needs to.

Money wise, I broke even with Fitzpatrick and McIlroy each way bets.

JT was great in that playoff.
Very much so. As an opponent in a three or four hole playoff, he is probably the absolute worst nightmare right now. It's functionally match play at this level, with the exception being that a truly terrible shot loses on the spot. JT is very unlikely to hit a shot that throws the match, he is going to sink at least one putt that he has to have, and he will manage the match in such a way that he applies maximum pressure to the opponent at minimum risk.

Thomas probably loses unless he drives 17, so he went for it and provoked the miss from Zalatoris. Then, he went for it on 18 tee because the downside risk is probably a stroke penalty and extending the match. Being out in front on the hole means he gets to react to the opponent's shot, which is a huge advantage when up a stroke. It was brilliant course management, which is something Thomas does really well.
