Just telling you the history. They competed under the EU flag for years before Brexit, but it started as a US-UK affair. They added the Republic of Ireland in 1953.

They added the continent later on to pick up players like Ballesteros and Langer, and render it a contest again. It was not all that relevant an event on the golf calendar until a little over thirty years ago, when the combined European team started winning and things got chippy. It was considered a major honor to be selected up until then, but that's about it from the perspective of the fans.

Homa has been sensational

I've been really impressed by Homa, looks a real team player with great character and temperament. That half last night would have hurt him as he had a chance to win but he's out there now grafting hard today and played some great golf.

It's interesting. He has never 'impressed' me during his rise to the top ten in the OWGR, in the same way that McIlroy did at Quail Hollow and Hovland did as an amateur. Homa is playing like the next golfer whose career takes off like Scheffler's, today.

Justin Rose's putter is still fire after all these years. It's what distinguished him from the 'really good' English players of his era like Donald and Westwood. He couldn't have asked for a course more suited to his game than Merion, and I say that as a tip of the cap to his putting ability rather than to belittle.

You, my dad and my kid both. Dad's still a big fan, but an unfortunate injury put paid to the time we shared on the golf course.

I barely play these days, because for me it was always 'something we do' rather than 'something I really enjoy'. My ability is vile, despite his best efforts and those of some legit golf pros. My swing is like my ex. Looks lovely, produces tragedy.

There is nothing to beat driving a a a big old classic car

Right about when I learned to play, though you must have more miles on the odometer if you precede my marriage by that many years.

Cars are a bit like playing golf for me. Had the sports car in college, had a lovely impromptu race acceded to non-verbally by random 911 driver on the way to a fraternity brother's wedding (won it, turns out either those don't handle as well as he thought or that he's an inferior driver), and it's out of my system.

Dad and my son could nerd out on them for days. I blame their respective inability to qualify for fighter jets.
