Kind of defined the seventies. A very good team although Gordon was a touch conservative. Robbed by a bent ref, then and our own fault Carlisle did the double over us. Was he a trophy winning manager?? I don't think that was in his locker. Dobson, Thomas, Latchford it was a diamond trio that. He got to a good age though did Gordon.

He defined my teenage years as an Evertonian, giving us title challenges and a league Cup final saga! but he was cruelly denied an FA Cup final due to a corrupt ref.

I think with hindsight, what we at the time thought was failure, was actually a few decent seasons.

I was obsessed with him when I was a kid, coz he looked like my hero, Frankensteins monster. I honestly could never understand why he didn't lurch onto the field when we were losing, and smash in a few goals, whilst simultaneously disembodying the opposition. Had his poster on my wall and everything.

Decent fella. 2 good seasons 2 bad for us - sometimes we played some good stuff especially the season we chased Forest. I think he had one of those Bell's awards made into miniatures (for the players) as he was teetotal.

Sad news but a great age.

Saw him a few years ago walking along the street up in Lytham St. Anne's where I believe he had retired to. He smiled and nodded his head.

Incidentally St Annes is also where Harry Catterick's grave is.

Yes. I saw him up there in Sainsbury’s in Blackpool a couple of times when I worked there mid 80’s

Sad news.
Gordon Lee was a much maligned manager under whom we actually played some terrific football and were unfortunate not to win both the league title and League Cup.
