RIP Gordon.

Lovely man, fine manager; probably too honest for his own good.

He left just before I fell in love with this horrible game.
Ratcliffe and Sharp loved him by all accounts and that's good enough for me . I had no idea he fell out with Duncan though .
R.I.P Lee .
Virtually all the players loved him, especially after Bingham. Even McKenzie got on with him in their 18 months together - although Duncan might occasionally tell a different tale. Got the best out of the likes of Latchford, King and Dobson, and signed fine players such as Thomas and Pejic. Not to mention Graeme Sharp!

I'll never forget the joy of the Andy King Derby, not just for the joy of beating the other lot for the first time in beards, but also Gordon Lee proudly accepting his manager of the month award before the game and walking towards the kopites in the park end waving his bottle of bells above his head. It set the scene for a great day. RIP Gordon.

It took a while, but it became apparent that his efforts were massively underestimated during his time with us.
Lugubrious Lee he was called because of his demeanour. Totally unfair.
I loved his dour outlook and never forget "the sniff of the hot dog" term relating to the later rounds of the FA Cup and visit to Wembley.
RIP

We went 22 games in a row unbeaten in league and League Cup in 77 before crashing 2-6 to the red Mancs on St Stephen's Day (Boxing day in UK). Fabulous run. I don't know if that is an Everton record.
The next day we went to Leeds and got battered 3-1. I always wondered if it was shock of those 2 defeats that sent him back into his shell and made him more defensive. There's a lot of truth in what @Johnny Barton says. He broke up the 77/78 side too early and many of his signings were sub par (including the Special Agent himself). But Gordon Lee was still a genuine man and we certainly had plenty of memorable matches with him in charge.

The Everton manager Gordon Lee gives a pitch side interview after Everton had beaten Bristol City 4-1 to go top of League Division One. The match was played on the 11th February 1979 at Goodison Park with an attendance of 29,116.

Gordon was our boss in my favourite ever game at Goodison, the Kingy derby, the team from 1977-79 was one of our better sides without actually winning anything, some really good players,Wood,Pejic,Todd,Lyons,Dobbo,Kingy,Latch,Thomas,"our Terry";)lol don't mention McKenzie!!,as a kid growing up I thought he was a real character despite his "dour"reputation, unfortunateley as previously stated probably too honest, he deserved at least one trophy I thought for his efforts,RIP Gordon and his sheepie and thanks for the memories:)
