I'll raise your Chad Smith with Andrey Malanichev

5x5 squats are starting to kill me. Managed 72.5kg yesterday.

Just make sure your technique doesn't break down, and transition to 3x5 when you start to feel you're stalling out. The squat responds very quickly to stimulus. There's no reason why you shouldn't be squatting 3 plates a site for a single pretty quickly.

Whoop! I did it!

The 24hr Le Mans skate took place this weekend in the most appalling conditions that I have ever seen. I competed in the Men's solo category against 102 other competitors and managed to finish 9th overall, completing a total of 91 laps, or 380km.

It rained. It rained all day and all night. This sucks when it comes to skating, as our skate wheels are far more sensitive to wet and slippery conditions. I saw so many crashes and wipeouts, but somehow miraculously managed to stay upright all the time despite fighting fatigue as well the wet stuff.

It was crazy hard physically and mentally, but I'm pleased to say that all my training and attention to nutrition and fueling paid off very well indeed. There were many skaters with far more ability who could not last the distance or had not prepared as well, and consequently didn't do as well.

For a first time effort I'm very pleased. Yes, the conditions sucked, but it was the same for everyone. It was an amazing experience. 2 days later I can still barely walk, and my ankles are horribly swollen, but I don't care!

Here's some highlights!

Nice one mate. Some going that! What is your next goal then?

5km park run this Thursday :D

After that, training for the Berlin double marathon (skate+running) will keep me amused up until the end of Sept. Should be a relative doddle after LeMans - training volume should only be 7-9hrs/week, which is just half of what I was putting in for the last 6 months.

Bought a bike today, then rode it home from town. I probably had more fun riding a bike than a 20 year old should, but whatever, made me feel like a little kid again.

Looking to get 1 or 2 bike rides in a week for the rest of the summer.

Played tennis for the first time today, for about 2 hours.

Went with a friend and she's been playing for years, but hadn't in a year or so, and she explained a few basic things and the tennis coach that was there said I've made amazing progress given that I played for the first time in my life! Good times.

Jogging and more tennis tomorrow as well.
