Eating right should also be high on your list if you're going to start lifting weights. If you're skinny like you say, simply lifting a few dumbbells from time to time wont 'beef' you up. Along with the right diet, work out plan and commitment, you need to study and research form, technique and breathing to lifting weights; im assuming you're a beginner.

If you're too lazy to go to the gym, i'd say you're half way to quitting and aren't really serious as it is.

Check out the app 'fitness buddy' if you still insist on doing your work outs at home. This app has hundreds of exercises for you to do with dumbbells, barbells, body weight etc.... targetting any specific muscle group you want.

That's not really fair.

Do you have room for a barbell setup ? By that i mean a bench and a pair of squat stands.

The reason i ask is that dumbells are okay, but a barbell, pair of squat stands and a bench will allow you to do five exercises that will cover basically your whole body.

Nah not really, live in a tight little flat. It's not ideal but like I said I can't really afford a gym membership.

Did you check out that app I suggested?

You could also check out youtube and search around that for workout ideas, technique etc... I would honestly do a bit of research on diets like I said though. If you're skinny or slim and want to beef up slightly, eating the right calories and nutrients from foods and supplements are key, in addition to a workout plan that is designed for your body and what you're trying to achieve. Remember.... everyone is different and what works for others, might not work for you. It's all about finding that balance, it takes time.

There is lots of people who post in this thread who are clued up and between us all, you will get a lot of good advice and ideas.

Yeah the app looks good cheers mate. I will look into diet and I've got an old mate who's into his body building that I'll be taking hints and tips from.

This might end up in me going to the gym if I really get into it, but I'd rather try it out at home first. I'm normally knackered after work so the last thing I'd want to do at the moment is cart myself off to the gym.

Cheers for the advice.

Nice...

I know what you mean, I feel that. Finding a schedule that works for you is tough. I live in an apartment complex that has its own gym and so I dont really have that excuse, as its literally 30 seconds from my door; but after working all day, its tiring.

In the last 12 months ive tried all kinds of schedules to see if it suits me. Even getting up at 4am, giving that a go.

However I will say this; once you get going, after a couple of weeks you'll find the tiredness goes away and you'll be more energetic. You're body will adapt to the extra effort. The hard part is starting but the hardest part is maintaining and keeping it going.

Went to my local bike dealer today. The Cannondale Synapse at £600 seemed to be his recommendation. Perhaps a little more than I was hoping to spend but its their entry level bike while still being something I wouldn't have to replace in a year or two. Carbon fibre forks on it too. Not that that really means a lot to me, but I'd wear it as a badge of honour that I've got some of the coveted carbon fibre on my bike. Probably get it on finance next payday. 0% over 12 months, very reasonable.
