How many of our lads can realistically play Potterball?
Can you imagine watching the likes of Doucoure and Gana in our midfield playing a possession type game?

Should we make a change? Probably. Do we have the squad to play expansive football?

Unequivocally no.

So if we made a change it would be a rich man's version of Dyche type. Like a Mou or Simeone.

As awful as we are to watch right now, I'm inclined to stick with Dyche through the season unless someone that made sense fell into our lap and start anew this summer. Sure there's a risk there, but I don't think many of us fully grasp how bad our squad is

I agree with the 2nd part of this, but on thi first part, I don't have the numbers to hand I seem to remember them being 4th in the league on Expected Points despite being like 14th in reality or something. Obviously, a lot of people don't put stock in those metrics, I do personally. So when you consider he had people like Maupay upfront, you can suggest he had them playing really well but they just weren't clinical enough.

I'm not sure on him myself, mate. But his work at Brighton was good.

He liked Maupay, he refused to sell Maupay to us mate - it only happened a year later because Maupay wouldn't renew.

Won't claim to know the intricacies of Brighton, but them facts are what they are. He'd have been long legged at Everton.

I think we overestimate how demanding we are as a fanbase. Half the time that I go to Goodison the place is like a morgue, bar a bit of full time booing. Yes, there's unrealistic fools on the internet but that's true of any club. Have a look at literally any Geordie twitter feed. They're even more delusional than we are. Loads of people made similar comments about whether Howe could deal with the pressure when we were linked with him and he's been just fine with the barcodes. Potter would also be fine with the fan pressure, imo, I just don't think this is a squad that can play his style of football so I wouldn't go for him mid-season. I'd be ok with him in the summer if he was able to bring in five or six players but that's not where we are.
Fair enough. Personally I think there's plenty of anecdotal evidence that tells us the expectations and demands are different at different clubs and the pressure that comes with it are different, but maybe all the people who say it are just lying to us. I suppose there's no way of proving it definitively so it's a circular argument.

I have decided to keep an open mind as to his credentials. I admire the fact he branched out and made a big success of his time at Hogwarts in Sweden. I also think he deserves credit for making Brighton an attractive side. However, I worry that much of his success there was due to the behind-the-scenes set-up at that progressive club rather than any magic potion our putative wizard may possess.

His time at Chelsea was a disaster - and he cannot be compared to people like Tuchel who won a Champions League there despite the dysfunction. Yet, I accept that many good managers struggle and, indeed, fail at such a club in such turmoil.

All that said, I don't think he would handle the pressure of rebuilding Everton. He really showed a very weak side of himself in how he handled the gleeful taunts of his former Brighton fans when he took his Chelsea back to the Credit Card Stadium for a ritual disemboweling. The entitlement of the man to take umbrage at his treatment exposed a very brittle humour that makes me doubt his character. Obviously, I'm no psychologist, but it wasn't the look of a man who was confident enough to genuinely brush off such treatment.

Nevertheless, we do need a magician right now and a replacement for He Who Must Not Be Named.

PS I'd actually prefer the Dark Lord - but I doubt José would entertain working again for the Friedkins even in the unlikely event they would entertain taking him back from Azkaban Istanbul.
I saw him on Sky Monday Night footie a few weeks ago and he spoke nonsense

People aren't going to like it, but TFG should be looking at 22/23 if the situation is as desperate. Dyche took us over in game week 22 on 15 pts and kept us up. We're currently on 17 having played 19 game weeks, but going into game week 21.

So what's the point in getting a new crisis manager on a long contract just because people are bored of the face of the current crisis manager?

And another point, if these lads can play football that yields better results than we're currently getting, then why not just go for a non crisis manager and stay up with better football?
Good points. We have and can play some decent football this season, but in extremely isolated periods. Apart from Bournemouth (H) from the off, most of the other attacking play has been when we've fallen behind and had to chase the game.

I think we 'can' play a more advanced attacking game with these players, but largely they're an extremely limited bunch technically, mentally and physically at times, which is where the risk comes in trying to change philosophy half way through the season.

You might also argue that Dyche, as bad as much of it has been, has had us outside the bottom 3 quite comfortably compared to recent seasons (under the circumstances) until now, so why change it now? If everything continues like this, we stay up, just.

However, with this being the last chance to strengthen for this season, who do you strengthen for, current, new or new at the end of the season (especially being short on loan spots currently, they'd have to be outright purchases)? Either way, I expect decisions to be made in the next 3-5 days.

Does anyone know if we've made moves to 'borrow' Dani Olmo yet until he can register for Barca?

There's rumours that the Friedkin's like both Iraola & Frank, but neither are acquirable whilst the season is ongoing.

I really doubt they are options in the summer either. Both are upping their rep once again this season and will have better clubs than us currently interested - Spurs etc., and in terms of Iraola he may have some of the super clubs.

Of all the new managers this season, I don't see any of them as a like for like replacement to their predecessor, nor any of them crisis managers.

Ten Hag - Amorin
Cooper - RVN
ONeill - Pereira
Martin - Juric

Each comes in to the role with the need to work with a squad that isn't necessarily aligned to their style of play.

If Dyche is going, and we're going to replace him with the same / crisis manager, what are we expecting different?

If we're going for something different, Potter for example, have to accept the risk is it may not change that much until the summer when we can properly rebuild

You've said this a few times, including saying it's the consensus on here, but almost nobody is saying that. I suspect the few that are are using hyperbole to illustrate their point (or just for the lols, I don't know). Everything I read on here suggests that everyone knows we have a limited squad but many people, myself included, think that Dyche is also part of the problem. Can it get worse? Of course, if being an Evertonian hasn't taught you that things can always get worse, then you haven't been paying attention. It's important we make the right choice for who is next and any change carries risk but not changing carries risk too. Nobody can look at the performances against Forest and Bournemouth and say that they're happy with them, that they are the maximum this squad is capable of. We're playing worse now with the same set of players than we were earlier this season. Is the squad a top half squad. Of course not. Can it perform better than it is currently? I believe so. So how do you change it? The squad absolutely needs improvement, and that should start right now, in this window. But you can't change a squad wholesale overnight. What you can do almost overnight is change the entire coaching staff.

Disagree. A lot are saying that. I deal with a lot of sentiment analysis in my day job - taking online noise and quantifying it. I admin Everton's biggest social pages/groups and here - across digital, there's a consensus that Dyche is Everton's biggest problem.

There's appreciation of the difficulties he's had, but most now think he's Everton's biggest problem most noise online attributing him as the reason, and reason we'll be relegated.

Honestly mate I don’t think we need a crisis manager. These players have way more than what they’re showing, that’s not to say they are great by any stretch but they are much better.

Therefore a manager who actually coaches them and gives them self belief and a style that suits their ability will fire us away from relegation pretty quickly.

It really is just some basic stuff.

This fella has been telling us since he’s been here that they’re not good enough to be away from where we are!!

I’m 💯 convinced a new manager will prove what a fraud this fella is

A new manager will (or at least should) bring belief, accountability - but, like managers before him needs pace and ability to contribute in the final third to move us away from relegation fodder.

Because I can't accept Harrison, Doucoure, McNeil, Lindstrom with full backs like Mykolenko and Young is anything other than bottom half of the league.

Its a risk, and possibly the worst time in our history when we can afford to take a risk. Premier league football in the new stadium is a must.

If we were talking about him replacing Dyche in the summer I'd vote yes. Not that I can watch another moment of dyche ball

I think Potter is ‘okay’ but the thing that worries me is that the players can’t pass a ball as it is. Squad full of players who are incapable of following the basics.

Only way I can see this working is a bit like the Martinez ‘Moyes defence’ bounce, and that we hopefully turn a few of those 0-0s into some wins. Then go from there in the Summer.

Could go either way with Potter.

Welcome home... James Rod
