It’s 100% what we tried to do. It’s what we try to do with absolutely everybody. DCL gets so much crap, but I’m convinced Haaland wouldn’t score in our setup. We play the target man approach yet get no decent balls into the box at all anymore.
I would say it's 100% not what we tried to do at all, and I think this is a basic misunderstanding that leads to some of the criticisms we see in the current set up. I don't think Lampard asked them to play long balls to Maupay, I think its just that there are so few players who are comfortable with the ball and so few players with the natural inclination to find space and make themselves available that we end up playing lots of aimless long balls regardless of what the tactics are supposed to be, because players find themselves with no other options and/or don't back themselves to take the more difficult option and so just get rid of it. Dyche's tactics at first got much more out of us because we actually set up to play that way and so got support to the front man etc, in a way that Lampard didn't do because it was never what he was asking of them. That's why someone like Potter would be a big risk for me, because I'm just not convinced at all that this group of players would be capable of adapting to what is expected of them in the next 4 months and so we once again end up in a situation where we pass it about putting ourselves under ever increasing pressure until someone either makes a mistake or just launches it to nobody.

I have my doubts about hiring him mid-season, but it’s a different story at the end of the season. If he can recruit alongside a Director of Football who shares his vision, I believe he would have us clear of a relegation battle. Fullbacks are important in his system, i would hope he would scrap any talk of giving chernobyl boy a new contract + bring in 2 decent fbs who don't 💩 themselves if they venture past the halfway line. That tit Maupay look semi-decent at times under him, I believe his system canbring the best out of players.

He's a clueless Muppet, no way you'd want him in over Dyche even with the lack of goals. Everytime he speaks he just looks like he's got no clue

Get Potter and Ashworth in... I would be happy with this. At least we may look like scoring and give us some plan going into the summer market!

If it's a straight choice for him between us and wham, I think he picks them. They have got a better set of players for him to start his type of football with.

Not sure he would be able to input the right blend of steel and workrate to go with the pretty football that we demand and therefore he may be wary trying (if he is honest with himself).

It also has to be said if he couldn't implement his style with Chelsea's players, how can we expect him to do it with ours...

I know this is a veiled dig at the fans, but really we don’t demand pretty football at all, we demand football that sometimes gets results and wins. We’ve won 3 games all season which is the reason we want the current manager gone.

Certain managers fit certain types of clubs.
Look at Nuno Santo at Forest compared to his time at Spurs, or Emery at Villarreal/Seville/Villa compared to Arsenal and PSG.

Potter would not necessarily be my choice, but is this where we’ve gone wrong before?
Moyes fitted Everton well for many years but everyone has a shelf-life and he out-stayed his.
It helped Kenwright perpetuate the little club punching above its weight syndrome which has been stuck with us for the last 10 years.

Maybe it suits Potter to start his rebuild with us, with a new owner looking to put strong foundations in place.
The risk is do we have the time/squad to start this mid-season, when we’re on such a wretched run of form? We have to start somewhere though, and be prepared for more rough results. But if we don’t start now, then we’ll just kick the can down the road and be in the same situation in the summer, and again next January.

If he came in and gets 2-3 wins instantly then i think he would be ok.

My worry is he doesnt turn it around so quickly and then he feels the pressure and folds.

If he's the man selected, get him in asap and back him in the January window. He has a low bar to clear if playing style and results are compared to Dyche so he doesn't need to panic and do anything crazy before the summer. Hopefully that gives a hell of a flying start at the task for next session.

Actually Mike, Fat Sam was sacked due to his terrible football.

Nothing to do with results.

….i genuinely have no idea on who the Manager should be, lots down to right man, right place, right time.

Moyes would be my only suggestion given he’ll know how bad the squad is, he can identify a player, he knows the club and he can organise a team. Less short-term risk.
I agree Moyse until the end of the season. I think I mentioned it before when discussing Carsley.

Actually Goat, he was always interim and being sacked for Silva who'd be available that summer due to a clause.

He knew it, he just negotiated a contact that made it worth his while, and provide accountability to the players.

But Silva was always replacing Allardyce no matter what Allardyce did.
