He'd be an imbecile to take that.

Not because he should be afraid of proving himself - because it's not exactly a ringing endorsement by his putative employer. If they have that little confidence in him before he even loses a game and hits a tough spell, he should steer well clear.

If he takes the gig at West Ham after that, it says more about Potter than it does West Ham.

As a Swede, who remembers Graham Potter’s early endeavors with Östersund, I find that the “can’t get results from a limited squad” argument is not very convincing.

Of course he would have to implement his chosen system in a much shorter time here.
It's all relative isn't it? The issue isn't whether these players are limited relative to every squad in the world, obviously they aren't. The question is whether they're limited relative to the teams they have to play on a weekly basis, which unfortunately I believe they are.

Are there any metrics by which Potter is a superior choice to Moyes? The latter's performance at West Ham is far superior to Potter's at Brighton. He also won a European trophy.

The only way I could see Potter as being a better fit is if they want an amenable coach who will allow a DOF to dictate recruitment, etc. His teams are dull as dishwater and have no cutting edge.

I don't know, I wanted Frank and he turned out rubbish, but I also wanted Emery and he's done well for Villa, so I'm not sure I'm qualified to decide if we should get Potter in, if we ended up having a model like Brighton he might do well for us, he might suck as well like he did with Chelsea although he wasn't given enough time probably, surprised he's been out of work for so long

I know, it's crazy, we've had that many managers and you could argue that at least three of them were kept on too long. Moshiri was an absolute menace to this club. About two years ago I was absolutely convinced we would cease to exist under his tenure. Whatever happens this season, I'm pretty certain Everton Football Club will still exist as a going concern. I know that that seems like incredibly low aspirations but I wouldn't have been able to say that with any confidence six months ago.
I think all of our managers were kept on too long - with the exception of Allardyce who was given a contract that was 12 months too long. It was clear they all had to go at some point previously, but Moshiri had to put everyone through the agony throes before finally putting the poor bugger - and us - out of our misery.

Martinez should have been gone as soon as he capitulated at Anfield. He was left oversee a cup semi final when he was already a totally busted flush. A real missed opportunity, that - as Romelu Lukaku personified at Wembley...

Koeman was an unshaven shambles by the end. He should have gone as soon as Rooney came back as the replacement for Lukaku - and Siggy and the Duch fella from Ajax. Talk about a "versatile" transfer policy.

Allardyce was never going to stay once the Fireman Sam act was complete - to be fair, he did that in about a month. But he was the wrong fit and was an unsustainable appointment.

Silva was saved by winning a pile of meaningless matches at the end of a season where he'd already blown his objectives and our hopes of progress in cup and league. We beat Man United 4-0 when it didn't matter, but lost 2-6 at home to Spurs when it did. We won't mention Millwall. Or the disgrace at Anfield.

Carlo, as is his wont, elegantly dodged a bullet by leaving us to win another Big Cup. A master at work. Imagine we had him with a new stadium and the Friedkins in situ...

Benitez was done that day at home to Watford. He'd started well, but was on a hiding to nothing by then and it was only going to get worse...which it did.

Lampard should have been binned after the first hammering at Bournemouth, let alone the second. We then spent another few months in the death throes of his regime. By the end, it was a mercy to relieve him of the job.

Nah, I think we've always been too slow to bin managers. Same again now. It was clear after the first Bournemouth game that Dyche's jig was up. Let's hope we staunch the bleeding before we drop into the second division.

I think it says a lot that the Brighton fans didn't want him back. Steve Cooper did a better job at Swansea and Brighton have improved since he left. Heck, Lampard was a better manager at Chelsea.

None of us are, it's why we're on a football internet forum on a work day afternoon!

Meh - we've had more managers than I've had hot dinners since Moyes left. All teams have turned into the much-mocked Perugia of the 90s.

By the way, I blame the great Howard Kendall for our congenital tendency to hold fire on failing managers. He is the exception that proves the rule. Since his Lazarus act, Kenwright and co have always longed and hoped for a comeback act...

"What a manager!"
