Green light for the Super League?

why? if the other 14 let them stay they deserve to be continually shat over
That's pretty much what happens in Spain. Barcelona and Real Madrid get the vast majority of the money because they're the only teams people in other countries want to watch, and the other clubs in Spain have recognised that. I don't think that is the case in England so the other 14 need to stand up for themselves or leave.

They need the Premier League, the Premier League needs them, and although most traditional football fans might agree that going back to what football used to be like would be the best outcome, the other clubs need them as well. It's all about the money.

Let them go this time. Sick of hearing about it.

I suspect within 3-4 years the players and fans will get bored of the same 19 matches with no threat of relegation. They’ll likely try and worm their way back in once the realisation hits.

I could be wildly wrong, though.

We had all this drama the other year, and we will end up having the exact same outcome, it won’t happen.

I imagine any new plan would have a token element of 'sporting merit' in allowing a small number of teams to join for one year based on results.

This will allow the pundits and 'football people's get behind and fans to feel they are allowed to support it this time around.

Come what may a versionnis happening, there's too much money to be made by those at the top.

Hope it happens now. Thought it’s was shameful when they tried it last time. But given what the premier league have done to us, compared to the minuscule punishment they gave the scab 6, then the premier league would deserve all they get.

UEFA is a a mafia. They've allowed the game to be defined in the European court of justice as a "business". As a result, we get today's logical judgement and the Bosman ruling which has essentially killed off the idea of clubs being "local" representatives of their fanbases, and the game a "sport". Instead, they are business franchises and must be subject to competition law. EU competition law applies to business. Had the game been run more as a sport and less as a business they wouldn't be facing this as opt-outs could have been found.

In all honesty, this day was coming since the Bosman ruling which made clubs the equivalent of McDonald's branches - the same whether located in London, Lisbon, Lyon, or Liverpool.

A European League of some sort - provided it is indeed open to all through promotion - is logical given the sheer inequity of the current model which has reduced huge clubs like Benfica, Celtic, Anderlecht, and Ajax to also-ran status simply because their TV markets are too small to compete with Burnley and Brighton. And this in the European Union where such borders are effectively artificial. So, a Euro League is coming sooner or later. Whether UEFA will run it is now the question...

I don't know, but I imagine the money is important to them. Otherwise they would've been leaving last time.

They would gain nothing by remaining in the Premier League. What would draw more viewers in, Liverpool v Burnley or Liverpool v Real Madrid for the 6th time in a calendar year?
