Group C: Slovenia, Denmark, Serbia, England

Absolute crap that Southgate chatted last night. Making it that he's still trying to find the right balance/formula as if he's got a limited squad at his disposal.

Guess what you massive gimp, it's imbalanced beciase that's the squad you picked and it's not working because the set up and team selection is massively wrong.

Absolute dosser

Might be a bit of a melodramatic take after 2 games but wondering if Southgate might have lost the dressing room a little bit after the announcement of the final squad for this tournament. Performances have pretty much dropped off a cliff since then.

These performances have been repeated time and time again over the last 8 years so clearly it’s a game plan and not because he’s lost the dressing room.

He is just a woeful manager, doesn’t have a clue how to change shape or setup in game, doesn’t understand how specific roles are supposed to work (TAA in midfield, Foden on the left with no full back providing width). You watch us play and no player has any idea what their role is supposed to be.

Rice doesn’t know if he’s supposed to be going to pick the ball up from the back 4 or not. His midfield partner also doesn’t know whether this is supposed to be their job.

Full backs don’t know if they’re supposed to play high up or sit deep so get caught in between.

Kane doesn’t know if he’s supposed to play as a target man or drop deep to help with the build up, and when he does drop in absolutely nobody fills his spot up front.

Bellingham doesn’t know when he’s supposed to play up alongside Kane and when he’s supposed to help the midfield out.

All of these problems come from poor coaching. Honestly he’s just very very bad manager with clearly an incompetent set of coaching staff as well, there is no other way to put it.

I would say this is worse than previous tournaments. Last Euros for example there was a clear plan to sit back on a 1 goal lead in the group stage, but it felt more like keeping it tight and keeping the opponent at arms length. This time it feels like being outplayed and just hanging on and as you say no idea what to do tactically. It feels different for me so far.

He’s knows how to navigate tournaments.

He’s studied teams who have won it in the past and negative football in the group stages is how it’s done really.

That last night was terrible though.

His best hope now is to put everyone in their natural position and hope foden and Bellingham can come up with something.

Agree with all of this and only comment to add, there's evidently no individual instructions because there are never any adjustments.

You watch Southgate through the match, he's reactive, a spectator. He got the job because somehow, but he's way past the point of any usefulness he might have had as a cheerleader.

Haha I think you’re giving him a bit too much credit there.

When the Team Selection came out yesterday we knew from that moment that Southgate had dropped a clanger. Basically it said, this is our strongest 11 and the rest of the squad can get stuffed.

He picks an attacking focused squad but then has them sit deep with no overlapping runs, he's clueless

He came across a bit weird in that interview. Seemed a bit overwhelmed for want of a better word. Perhaps not a good omen

He’s always a passive aggressive weirdo in interviews. I remember when he got asked about the racist behaviour from the Hungarian fans towards our players and he basically said that our own fans are racist and we need to “get our house in order” before we can comment on others’ behaviour. He should’ve been sacked on the spot for that imo, unbelievable that more wasn’t made of that.

I think he had a point there to be fair. You can't pontificate about other countries' racism when your own country has similar issues. He's no doubt aware of a lot of the racist abuse BAME players in the England squad receive.

I just meant that he's usually quite calm in interviews and unflustered even when something has gone badly but that didn't seem the case yesterday.
