I just watched peps interview after our game and he seems so similar to martinez. He's obsessed with controlling the game and basically says that he deserved to beat us because of the possession stats. He says that against Burnley and palace he was lucky as they didn't control the games. I really don't think he understands the premier league.
Martinez was obsessed with this philosophy but it does not work in the premier league. The premier league is all about effective and efficient football. That's proven if you look at the winners since its inception.
Martinez generally thought his second season at everton showed better stats from the matches that he would like to see from his team than the first season. Yet his points were about 25 less. This philosophy is hugely flawed in the premier league.
And those possession stats.
An awful lot of their possession was in their own half.
And an awful lot of that was meaningless, not to mention dangerous, passing across the penalty area.
I watched very closely......it was uncannily like how we played a lot of times in the second half of last season.
Slow, sideways passing, laborious build up....giving the opposition time to organise their defence.
