Guardiola to be found out in the premier league

i really don't know if united can be considered title contenders. They should be based on fees paid, but will lukaku be any better than ibrahimovic last season? I have my doubts, he'll score more goals maybe, but will they be as big as the ones ibra scored? hmm, doubtful. They've sold their captain and then brought in that swedish centre back who has looked a bit crap so far.

Matic is a decent signing though, but looks on the decline, so we'll see how that one goes. Think selling fellaini is a mistake myself, he does give them good options.
Between them and city I reckon. But will look clearer when the window closes

Reading the second book of the Guardiola series by Marti Perarnau. Would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys the 'science' of Football tactics.

On Pep himself, he's one of the best ever imo. Constantly innovating both himself and the teams he's managed.

I can never understand the "he needs money shouts". Of course he does! His brand of football is most definitely the most complicated and thus he needs the best players or, more specifically, the players with the most football intelligence to play his style.

A big part of his style is positioning players - such as his full backs - in positions where they can nullify the threat of counter attacks if the team lose possession. Sagna and Clichy weren't capable of doing this, so obvious so that he was happy to have no full backs in the club for the start of pre season.

Think it's between them and Chelsea this year. Going to be fascinating!

ill have to give that a read. I still think his style is a very risky style and its yet to be proven to work in the premier league. I have to say he is a manager who I have quite liked (personality wise) since hes been in the premier league. I mean some managers I really don't have much time for such as Wenger and Mourinho

You don't become a bad manager overnight.

He's a great manager.

Judging by the weekend demolition of the RS his team seem to be responding to him.

Without trying to sound like a Kopite, they were on top before the red card, then just completely capitulated.
Not saying he isn't a good manager, but he's now spent a vast amount of money at City, and if they don't win the league this season, you've got to consider his tenure a massive massive flop (Champions League pending).

He walked into the Barca team, which I believe is the greatest of at least the modern era, if not of all time, and done what was expected... Won!
Walked in the Quintuplet winning Bayern team assembled by Jupp Heynckes, and made them worse. In a league where the only competitors are Bayern, that was easy.

I think he's a good manager, I just think he's vastly overrated. Still time for him to prove me wrong.

Oh, and before anyone asks, yes. I'd have him before I had Koeman.

I think Pep has figured the English game a bit and he has been much more direct than before. He's a good coach that needed to tweak his philosophy a bit to break down these pesky buses.

He keeps "walking" into these great teams!

He must be doing something right.

I take your point. I wonder who he would have bought if we'd had him instead of Koe?
He wouldn't have had so much cash but he might have had more savvy.

He's spent huge finances on the defence because
A, they needed better than Sagna, Clichy and Zabaleta
B, today's market is mind boggling.

Barcelona didn't win the league the year before he took over. He also brought through Busquets and Pedro from the youth team and turned Messi into a ST.

I think you mean in Germany the only competitors were Dortmund?
If you mean they were worse because of their failure to win the CL, how many teams win the trophy consecutively? When he took over, the owners of Bayern didn't regard the CL as a future barometer of his tenure's success because it's a knockout competition full of the world's best and most effective teams. A whole host of reasons can be given for teams not winning cup competitions. This is confirmed by the fact rarely the winner of the PL win the FA Cup.

I think if you're view isn't "he's one of the best", then I'd ask what he has to do to become that, given that he's not even 50 and he's won everything there is to win.

He's basically playing his entire managerial career like having a cheat code on in a game.

It would have been harder for him to fail to win. Massive resources and outstanding talent already in place at every club he's been at.

He's not a poor manager, but I doubt he's a great one - rather, he's one who has done well to stage manage his entire career to this point. As it stands, he's won nothing with City and his win percentage has dropped, because he's now in a competitive league. If he's a greater manager, he takes City to Premier League and European success with resources and money he has.
