2018/19 Gylfi Sigurdsson

Boot will have been a precaution. If it was so bad that he couldn’t move, he would have been subbed earlier and probably left the game on crutches.

If he’s crocked for Cardiff, Bernard can play there and Lookman gets a run out wide. No game there.

If he’s fit, great. He’s playing well and he’s becoming a key cog in what Silva wants to achieve. Could still do better but is doing better than last season.

I’m pleased.

This would be my worry if he is out for a while.

I think the key for Silva in that role is Gylfi's aggression in the press. So if that's missing it's how we adapt. The other players I reckon we have that can press like Gylfi does in that role would be Davies and McCarthy, but obviously neither of those are fits for that position.

Against Cardiff, I wouldn't be too worried about having Bernard there and have just advocated as much in the Lookman thread, or even if Richarlison slotted in so we kept some aggression in that position.

Just hoping he's not out for longer.

Bernard would run it in the middle P. No doubt.

Yeh I think he'd be class in that role for the little bits of interplay and sexy throughballs. My worry would be if Silva basically kept it the same in the kind of 4-4-2 we've been playing out of possession.

I'm just not sure Bernard has the physicality to press like Gylfi does, so it might just mean tweaking it slightly.

It can't be that serious if he has played on.

He has a couple of weeks to recover and if he is looking borderline for Cardiff he should be benched and saved for Liverpool. Bernard can come in to number 10 and Richarlison to the left.
Also, despite the boot, he was able to weight bear.

Two weeks to recover, he played on for the majority of the game.

If it was that bad he wouldn't have continued.

I would think so too, but he also finished out the match with the knee injury that ended his season last year. Really hoping he's fine by the end of the international break though.

not always the case, it's not going to be long term, but you can play on a strain then once everything cools down and swells you can be about a month away

Yes this is the case, we can't know whether its not serious until they've had the results and better still when the swelling has gone down.

We will only know more when they release the results of their assessment following the scans and likely not to rush out any announcement until they're sure which possibly means the swelling down too.

Dont agree with restrospective bans at all me. An horrendous act like that should be dealt with on the spot by the referee preferably with VAR . Jorgihno would only get banned after the fact and would be no benefit to us at all infact we were worse off as Gylfi had to leave the field later in pain.
Instant dismissal punishes Chelsea for the rest of the game not in the following games where they can just replace him and no change to the numbers on the pitch.
No not a fan of retrospective bans me.
Its about punishing the player, deturing him from ever doing anything like that again.
