So we just dismiss how cack he was for the majority of last season, and those who criticised him should be embarrassed etc, LOL at the rawk levels of bellendish there.

I always said I wanted him to do the bizz, and am actually made up he’s doing it, he does well, he contributes to us as a team doing well, and that’s all what matters.

We’re going to be relying on him to put in a big performance on Sunday.
This is the worst thing about this website. As soon as a player starts playing to the level we all know he can play then all of the mutants crawl out of their holes to give their "I told you he was de best, I did honestly and you are all dead wrong and must feel dead stupid" speech. The same thing happens in the Keane thread which is even weirder because he was genuinely rubbish last year whereas Sigurdsson was ok.

A thirty yarder, a scuffed shot, and a tap in against the Gobshites will do me fine.

I would like to see a hat-trick resembling the one v Split, the one v Leicester and a nice repeat of his team goal at the pit last year.

That would be lovely.

The laughable thing is mate, those same people have probably criticised players, and ended up getting it wrong.

The way some lads go on though you would think Sigurdsson has all of a sudden become ‘world class’ when in all reality he’s just playing really well, and as I say, I’m glad he’s now doing the bizz, he does well, we as a team do well, that’s all what matters.

You wouldn't judge the performance of a Ferrari on its ability to pull a caravan. He played left mid far too often and second fiddle to a domineering Rooney

I agree with what both of you are saying Lou.

I just don't agree that Gylfi was 'cack' in general last year.

He came into a crap side and yes, for his first few months was poor. But there were other factors and what was never a factor was that he generally wasn't a good player. He didn't have a pre-season, he was playing in a side with no style, he was playing in about four different positions. Yes, he needed to be better, but some were acting like it was all down to him and that was purely down to the fee we paid (which I acknowledge was over the odds but really, who cares?).

Come this time last year Gyfli was starting to hit his stride, and still had to play wide left with Martina behind him, so spent most of the time tracking back. When Unsy/Sam finally stumbled on a system that worked, it was with Rooney deeper so he could get the ball into Gylfi, and I stand by what I've said all along that Gylfi in that spell from the end of November through to his injury in March was consistently one of our better performers (maybe not hard). He then got injured and we missed him. It meant Allardyce could revert entirely to type and go long ball, because Rooney had nobody to play those passes into because nobody was dropping into the spaces that Gylfi was.

This season he has been crucial to how we've wanted to play. Not saying he's been excellent in every game, but he's the fulcrum of our attacks once we get in the final third.

Hopefully he comes up with the goods on Sunday!

Alot of the problem was expectation last season. People wanting him to inesta just cuz of his price tag. He is never gonna be a play who dominates possession and goes on mazy runs. He is doing well now because other people in the team dominate possession, have pace and movement and create angles for him. Hes is in his right position and gives us genuine end product as well as physicality and work rate. The team is set up around him. It was similar at Swansea although the players around him werent as good

That's the thing though, he never once "Hit his stride" last year. The few worldies he scored helped paper over that.

He has hit his stride this season during/after the Fulham game, and long may it continue.

He was as bad last season as he is good this season. Same as Michael Keane really.

Personally think it's madness to call Sigurdsson one of our better players last season, as in my eyes he was the exact opposite of that, but each to their own.

And ultimately, who cares, he's playing well now. I still have a suspicion that he's a bit of a streaky form player who can easily go missing in games for long stretches of time.

I still don't think he was worth the money but I do believe he is currently the most important player in the team. Richarlison, Gueye and Gomes run him close but at the minute he is the first name on the sheet. Keep this form up and we have a 50/50 chance of top 6 and a very slim chance of top 4.

No point in vaulting them, they will make lame excuses and just bang on about last season zzzzz

Take satisfaction in the fact that you weren’t as knee jerk, short sighted or had at least an idea what s decent player is all about.
Most of the comments about Siggy and Keane last season, and indeed in preseason this summer, were probably justified. More so with Keane than Siggy.

But both players have turned it around and then some. Siggy has probably been our best player this season and Keane can't be that far behind, especially since coming back from his head injury. I think it's fantastic and great credit to the manager and coaching staff. But that doesn't mean that last years comments weren't valid.

I agree with you Toff, he is now becoming the player that makes us tick, he's got a good engine on him (not just in the running around sense anymore) and I've also noticed he will get in the ref's face when he feels a decision has gone against him unfairly, something I approve of big style.

He's an important player for us Sunday, he puts in a big performance, then we put in a big performance.
