2018/19 Gylfi Sigurdsson

I...actually probably agree

He produces one excellent pass or shot during most games. Which are good. Obviously.

But he does eff all in terms of actually linking our midfield and attack, being involved in the buildup, etc, and I think it makes our attack worse off overall...

Hard to say about Bernard for me but I would be interested in seeing DCL, Richarlison, Walcott/Lookman, Bernard as our front four. Just to find out, ya know.

*ducks*
I kind of agree with this. If we got a real top attacking mid for 40 million, we would see the gulf in difference. The thing that makes Gylfi bad is that he disappears for almost the entire game and does nothing to help the attack, or defence, except run around a bit. The thing that makes him good is that 1-2 moments per game that are good moments, are really good moments. A great shot, or incisive pass. He disappears all game but then comes up with a great goal, then goes back to disappearing. Its hard to value.

How do you work that out? If you played Bernard through the middle in this league he'd get murdered

Siggy fits the team perfectly as it currently stands. He plays the killer ball 90 percent of the time and we fail to finish. If anything, our composure in front of the net needs to improve drastically.

If Silva ever decides to run a more patient system, we should move on from Sigurdsson. At times he is direct to a fault. We would be better off keeping possession in certain moments, and that isn’t his strength. He does have the skill to play THE incredible ball every game. We just need to finish those off much more often.

Comparing Bernard and Siggy is so pointless, 2 good players and we can easily play them both. Obviously Siggy is having a much better season but Bernard still has to settle in the league, once he does he is showing enough already to know he will be a good player.
Persisting with negativity towards Iceland after the season he is having is just childish

Its like we aren't allowed two good players! Also if Bernard had Sigurdssons stats this season and vice versa everyone would be absolutely raving about him and slagging off Sigurdsson for scoring 0 goals etc..

Perhaps shouts for him to drop deeper have some merit. Would only do it against peasant teams like Burnley or when we play teams like Newcastle at home. I had my resentments after he played in a midfield 2 against City, but it sure worked today.

Think playing two inside forwards in a 343 suits the Bernards, Walcotts, Richarlisons better than the current 4231. Against larger teams if we deploy the 343 formation, we ought to consider dropping Gylfi to the bench.

....great assist though. When he has time to think, his feet are magical.

He's good but he goes missing sometimes. Reminds me of Cahill who wouldn't really be involved with the build-up play but would always be on the end of it.

Probably has the best vision at the club, but to get the best out of him you need runners off him. Thats exactly what Richarlison done for his goal.

Give him the ball , upto 30 yards out , with runners around him and he is top notch. Can strike from there and his vision, timing of pass and weight of pass I see very very good.

We don’t give him the ball enough, give him the ball with people already on their bike before he receives it and he will play a decent ball , usually first time . He’s a class footballer with a top attitude and work rate and if he cost 20m people wouldn’t say he is an excellent signing. His price tag only has barring on his value as in bang for your buck , it on no way changes his quality as a player , he’s not David Silva level but Lear’s face it , from the top 4 down he walks into every other team in the league
