Probably going to get blasted for this but Cahill didn’t really do much apart from knock in vital goals and be a serial pest. Gylfi has actual deadball ability to go with the 3 lungs and goal scoring ability
You won't find a bigger advocate for Iceland than me mate but he's got A LOT to do before he's mentioned in the same breath as Cahill.

Yeah, he never gets goals or assists.

I'm with you mate (probably in a less grumpy tone though!)- Gylfi will prove to be our best player this season. He's going to be our main playmaker and now finally has pace around him.

What we won't see though, as you rightly say, is him dominating the game. Just like you won't see Ozil or Alli etc- because that's not how he plays. But looking past that very English mentality, we will see our main influence in Iceland.

He showed me nothing before he got injured bar the odd screamer. I want to see him get on the ball and take games by the scruff of the it’s neck and push us on
You should have watched him a little more then, it was fairly obvious he was improving before his injury.

Completely different type of player to Cahill. Cahill was more of a second striker, direct player who would get on the end of moves and break past the striker. Siggy is technically better on the ball, and more creative but lacks the same ability to get beyond the striker and will never score goals in the same fashion Cahill did.

I am excited for Siggy this year to be honest. He's playing centrally in an attacking formation with 2 wingers who will look to get in behind the opposition full backs and a centre forward who can hold the ball with his back to goal. This is the season he should be judged on

Not sure if discussed in other threads but with Bernard being able to play as a nr 10 you think Gylfi could play as a nr 8 in less difficult games ? Might get more oit of him

You’re dangerously close here mk to putting Ozil and Siggurdson in the same bracket. Please say it ain’t so. I’ve seen Ozil completely dismantle top opposition without getting out of first gear. I’m still not really sure whether Siggurdson ever has the ball under control.

Some bloke has just compared him to Tim Cahill our highest scoring premier league midfielder, who carried us to 4th place almost by himself, scorer of 5 goals across 4 world cups and all time Australian goal scorer (from midfield). I can’t read a couple of posts later that he’s actually also a peer of Mesut Ozil.

Let’s see Siguardsson surrounded by better players before he is written off totally. Richarlison, Walcott, Bernard will provide us with something we desperately lacked last season...pace and movement. If Siguardsson can’t influence games surrounded by these types of players as opposed to bolasie, DCL and Rooney then he should be sold, but let’s give him a chance first.
