Scarily similar player to Tom Cleverley.
I’ve banged this drum on a few threads, but I would like to see him drop in alongside Gana when Bernard comes in to play at 10.
It is entirely possible that I just WANT him to do well, but I am doing my best to be objective and think he is a creative enough player to be that link between defence and attack for us. With movement like Walcott and Richarlison gave us today, as well as the sheer pace those two and Bernard can offer, there’s a job to be done finding them more quickly than Gueye/Schneiderlin are able to.
That could very well end up being Gomes’s job but I think Gylfi should be allowed an audition at least.
I think/hope we will set up with him next to gueye with Bernard in front got the majority of our home games. Some away games we don't need to be that attacking and can instead play with a pacey counter attack.
We have a lot of options, hope sig can step it up, but our fans need to stop having a go at six or seven players everytime they have a bad 30 mins or so.
I just think of the amount of times Walcott and Richarlison went running into space down the flanks when we won the ball, only for Schneiderlin to turn sideways and give it to Baines, letting Wolves recover.
In key away games, Gylfi’s vision could set up chances on the break and maybe - just maybe - we’ll come away from some “big teams” with more than just a medal for trying hard. I realise, however, that scenario relies on Gylfi still possessing that kind of vision that made us shell out for him in the first place. Here’s hoping...
What vision? Just because he's 'a number 10' doesn't mean he has vision. Just because he cost 45m doesn't mean he has vision. Just because he had a lot of assists off set pieces while playing for a set piece team doesn't mean he has vision.
Always been a dreadful signing. He's 'ok' but nothing more. And that's based on a lot more than today's game.
