2018/19 Gylfi Sigurdsson

I'm so confused. He set up the second goal, his passing was good in horrible conditions - I don't recall him making a bad pass all game, he took care of the ball, he was outstanding defensively - probably his best game honestly, so what did he do wrong?

He's too slow in posession and his movement is crap. We need to either drop him or take him away from number 10. The number 10 system doesn't work in modern football. The best thing to happen to the Reds was losing Coutinho and changing system. Our movement as a team is dreadful. Everyone passes and stops.

You and I have very different opinions then mate if what is expected from a player. You see a player looking for the ball, I see a player too slow to drop deep and get it and then too slow to support the attack.

I don't think it's absurd at all as you put it but hey ho, it's all about opinions

How is he not supporting the attack? He's our only player creating anything at times.

He actually did exactly as you suggested dropping deeper in the second half, but frankly, tactically that's not what he should be doing.

He's definitely slow. No question. Which is why it puzzles me how he can have 2 interceptions and 2 tackles and others can't.

But again, who was better yesterday?

He doesn't pass and stop...so is it his fault?

I think many here are frustrated with how we play and just blame it all on Sigurdsson. I just cannot understand why. We just gave up 3 set piece goals. We had the ball most of the game and he hardly made a bad touch all night.

For me he’s to slow, so when he’s deep he can’t get up the pitch quick enough
And when we have DCL or tosun up front it forces Richarlison to far back.

The midfield is the big problem, I’m not a fan of Gana as everyone will probably know, not sure what’s happened to Gomes. No pre-season? 4 games in 9 day over Christmas? Or are we seeing the player he really is, a good but not top class midfielder.

I’ve always said 3 midfielders would be the best system. The midfield is your heartbeat of the team and we just don’t dominate any opposition, even lower league.

I’ve said this fir a while now, not a knee jerk reaction. But I would sell Gana in this window and siggurdsson in the summer. Potentially we could get 50mil. And then go out and buy some quality midfielders.

Players like him don't need to be quick, they need to get the ball and play it forward and make things happen. Find little pockets of space and look for movement in front of him - thing is the rest of the team are static and he has nothing to aim at.

It's a team sport, and it's the team that's terrible.

If we are classing him as being better than everyone else yesterday mate that is setting the bar very low indeed for what we are expecting from the players.

Not one player came out of that game yesterday whwre they could say "yeah I did enough to win that game"

Gylfis issue is game after game, not just yesterday. Hes right in a pocket of the pitch where he's too far away from the midfield and too far away from being up top so he's just there, in a void and nowhere near available enough to hurt team's like a number 10 should.

People going out of their way to make excuses for his performances deserve him.

An absolute championship chump that found his level being the focal point of a relegated Swansea team and we went and paid 40 million for him. The worst business in our history. The criticism the likes of Osman and Ross Barkley endured yet this clown is backed to the hilt. I honestly wouldn’t care if the club lost every penny on him and just booted him out in the summer. Sadly we’re stuck with him probably until he retires because no one will latch his wages and he’s on a mega contract.

People who bang on about his fee not mattering are missing a very important point. His fee is the reason he will have to start every single game he’s available for regardless of who the manager is and what other players we bring in. So we’ve got another 2 and a half years at least of watching a disjointed mess of an attacking side with players shoehorned into positions that don’t benefit them, in order to accommodate him.

Last minute of the game ref is waiting to blow the whistle every player in the box and he is doing dummies 30 yards out and the ref blows his whistle. Honestly

Just shows the complete lack of game intelligence most of our players have. Digne did the same crashing into that Millwall player as soon as we’d gone 2 up. It’s just stupid yet these players keep doing this sort of stuff all the time. Mind you when there’s no consequence to anything you do then there’s no incentive not to be an absolute moron on the pitch is there. Siggurdson knows he is undroppable. Contrast Emery’s handling of Ozil with our managers indulgence of this chump.
