2019/20 Gylfi Sigurdsson

I’d say he was anonymous in quite a few of those games that he scored in actually, namely Southampton away and Spurs at home off the top of my head.

Yes and there were games where he scored and was very good also, as well as being joint top scorer and weighing in with assists. Like I said, not anonymous for the last 12 months as the poster wrote

This thread is a terrible example of fan opinion. Full of whoppers who would rather be proved right than see a player they dislike do well. I am a massive siggy fan but he has been crap this season and shouldn't get his place back immediately even after his screamer but he has the quality to get back in even in a 3 with Iwobi and Gomes. I also do not think the lads commitment should be questioned, even when he goes missing he always presses and tracks back. He even commented on how dynamic we were Saturday with him on the bench.
That’s funny, calling other fans whoppers and then suggesting siggurdsson should play in a 3 with Gomes and Iwobi.,

14 goals is anonymous? OK.

1 against lower league opposition.
2 penalties.
1 penalty rebound.

Now we're down to 10 proper goals and not gimmies.

10 league goals from open play doesn't sound bad, agreed. But in the games he hasn't scored, he's literally hindered play.

3 of that remaining 10 came in routs of relegation fodder though...

So would we be better off without his goals?

Let's go for the Lukaku argument here, I want proper banter.

You can put all the clauses you like to try and make your point stick, but it still doesn't.

Against teams who park the bus I could see it working. No point in 2 holding mids if they just long ball it. He also plays their for Iceland. :)
Iceland play totally different style. Silva hasn’t bought Gomes, Delph and Gbamin. And wanted doucoure. To play siggurdsson in midfield.

Won’t happen

Were we better off without rooneys goals because I remember the same argument when people were using his goals to excuse what a detrimental effect he had on our team
I mean tbh he is overweight and definitely hindered play more than Sigurdsson. At that point it's just stating the obvious.

What a banger from halfway though, wahey

It's proper boring isn't it?

The lads a good player, weighs in with a shift, scores a steady amount and pulls the odd worldy out of the bag (his debut goal in Europe, the goal away at Leicester and Saturdays goal).
That doesn't mean I don't find him utterly useless many times a game though. Honestly a frustrating player - quality there, uses it very rarely (putting it mildly).

Delph and Gmabin. Gmabin is new to the league and out until Jan so cant see him being a regular starter until the end of this season. Delph is injured every other week. Davies is still inconsistent as he is still learning. Watford will not sell Docoure in Jan. We are not currently blessed in midfield despite the squad numbers.

You could label that at the entire squad though over the last 15 months, apart from Digne. He polarises opinion and has rightly been dropped for his performances this season. He's a decent premier league midfielder though, anybody who says otherwise is talking out of their arse.

Nah agreed, decent and very promising (can that even be said about a 30 year old?!) at times, with a rocket of a shot, but inconsistent and also frustrating in failing simple things often, or not having the balls to do what is needed.
