Utterly ridiculous comment. WTF could he have added to a proven slotting machine's game? Nothing.

Lukaku scored .41 goals per game under Martinez and has scored .67 goals per game under Koeman. That's a massive improvement. Koeman has clearly improved his game in every department in a very short space of time. Koeman was a top top player. Some of that has rubbed off on Rom. Probably in awe of him and wanted to impress him. No way were we getting £75m for Rom last summer, no were near that.

These are not 'going rate' prices mate. There are some people kidding themselves that is the case. But look elsewhere, who else is being ripped off on players with potential other than us? NO ONE.

Which clubs have bought players that would improve us for less money that we could realistically get? I can't think of any.

Stones we robbed Man City blind at 50 million, lets not kid ourselves Dave. His last year with us he was an absolute liability playing at the back with Roberto in charge. Barkley just has not kicked in on the way he should have. I know you berate Koeman for this but prior to that almost every manager he has played under has had reservations with regards to the mental side of his game. Lukaku out of the three is the only one we will miss and find difficult to replace. Yes the lad had his faults but he could score for fun.

Unfortunately like everything it is supply and demand. The PL is the place with the money and as such any PL club signing players can expect to pay 10 - 15 million on top of the 'realistic' asking price, add another 5 - 10 million on top if its PL sides transferring between each other. That my friend is the footballing world we live in at the moment. Unlike yourself Dave, i applaud Everton for still trying to make the signings rather than take the 90 million for Rom and try and stash it away or tell us its going towards the new stadium.
Can't really disagree with any of that. Stones didn't want to be here and hasn't improved at all this season at city. His football education in the art of defending would have been better served under koeman for another year.
Lukaku didn't want to be here, turned down the most lucrative contract in our history, but nevertheless a huge loss
On to Barkley, the saddest of the 3. Boyhood blue and Rooney's return would think Ross would live to be part of that. Alas looks like he's leaving, really can't understand it.

West Ham had a 20 mill bid knocked back for arnautovic mate. I think Gylfi is the three times the player. Compatively City paid 43 mill with 17 mill in add ons for Silva. I suppose you could say Klassen and Gylfi fall into that market.

Keane at 25 mill, we are seeing Nathan Ake going to bourmouth for 20 mill. Keane is a proper centre half, not a Chelsea reserve. If we go back a year ago City set the tone here for young English centre backs signing Stones.

Pickford I don't even care, it's 15 years since we didn't have a clown in goal, we've signed him to improve our human rights situation.

Being young with a price tag on them doesn't guarantee anything.

Sigurdsson, yes. I have petitioned for his arrival for a long time. He is quality. However, 27 years old and throwing anything like over and above £35M at a deal is laughable.

It's just outrageous prices and we should have the courage to laugh in Swansea's face and walk off.

Maybe Walsh can actually do the job he's paid for and unearth quality for a fraction of these prices?
Realistically, how can anybody disagree with this?

Anything over 30 for a free kick specialist would be an abomination

We are going to sell Robles in this same market. Pickford will be here for a decade and we'll look back and laugh at that number.

But name the other keeper we should have bought instead.

Some people just want us to make magic signings, Young, top-league proven players that fit the system but for under market value, then others just enjoy being negative about every deal (whether about the player or the price).

Iceland is a quality player and prices are just crazy but there are very few Unicorn signings*.

* - I'm hoping Sandro can be one.

The general perception in the media and amongst pundits (I don't include carragher or any ex RS players in this) is that Everton have recruited well, with a predominantly young team eager to make progress.

Very rarely do people go on to better things from us

If other clubs get ripped off does this mean we should fall into that trap?

Whats the alternative at the moment Dave?? Proven PL players are costing big bucks. We seem to have a two pronged approach at the moment to transfers. In the here and now we are buying PL players who we believe can help us to get Top 4 and secondly highly regarded younger players to slot into the U23 with the hope they progress and make it into the first 11 thus meaning we do not need to spend big on transfers in the future. To me Dave that is sensible, the reality is though in the short term to bridge that gap we have to spend a little obscenely. It is what it is...
