2017/18 Gylfi Sigurdsson

He didn't make much of a difference against Watford and Burnley in his last two away games did he?

He was our best player against Burnley, creating clearcut chances for Walcott & DCL. (which they both missed)

Against Watford he had Martina/Kenny as fullbacks, with himself & Walcott on the wings.

Oh yeah and Rooney/Davies in midfield with Niasse upfront. No Playmaker can thrive with those players.

We miss him, in my opinion.

Gylfi created 33% of our goals in the 33 matches he played for us this season. 12 goals/assists out of 36.

He also didn't take any penalties, which Rooney & Baines took 9 of.

Gylfi could have 20-21 of our 36 goals/assists during that period. 55.5%-58.3%

Instead we let Rooney take 7 penalties and miss 4. Rooney has created 14 of Everton's 48 goals this season. 29%

Scored 3 penalties, 3 goals in 1 game against West Ham (1 was a rebound from a missed penalty)

1 of his 3 assists was a pass to Sigurdsson where he scored out of nothing against Swansea.

That's 5 of Rooney's 14 goals/assists that were either penalties or shouldn't have counted as an assist.

Our season would have been much better if we never signed Rooney. 0 goals/assists in his previous 13 matches.

Gylfi is scheduled to return to training in 6 days, and if he does play again for us this season then I think this would be the best possible XI.

Vlasic is way more clinical than Bolasie, Walcott is lost without Sigurdsson & I cannot imagine Klaassen offering less than Rooney, Davies or Schneiderlin in attack.

I think he’s contributed more whilst he’s been out injured, was like playing with 10 men when he was on the pitch

The lads stole £5m out of our purse and contributed the square root of f’kall

I haven`t even thought about him tbh, which shows how much he contributes overall.

Imagine how much Kevin Sheedy would be worth in today`s market, when Siggy Strollaroundson cost what he did.

Ironically Everton have looked like they're playing with 10 men when Sigurdsson hasn't been on the pitch.

We definitely didn't deserve to win against Stoke, Joe Allen on his own was better than Davies/Rooney/Gueye combined.

Against City we had 18% possession, with Bolasie scoring a fluke goal.

38% possession against Liverpool's B team, yes we should have won with DCL, Walcott & Tosun all missing sitters. But we still looked like we were playing a man down.

Even Swansea dominated us, a fluke own goal is the only reason why we didn't lose.

Gylfi is easily our most important player. It's not even close.

There's a reason why he created 29 of Swansea's 45 goals last season in the PL, and he could have had a lot more than 'just' 64.4%

And to think that Sheedy was classed as a " luxury player " in his day.
It would be interesting to see how sheedy would have adapted to playing in the league today. Not many footballers in my lifetime could control and influence a game like sheeds when playing out on the left. I happen to think he’d be like a Kroos or Alonso figure nowadays exerting his influence on the game when playing centrally. What a player, what a left foot.

Yeah lad if he wasn’t injured we’d have won all of those wouldn’t we.
