2017/18 Gylfi Sigurdsson

Actually think he's been badly missed, been one of our best players this season after a dopey start, due to no pre season. Rooney has looked a shadow of himself without Sigurdsson to do his leg work. Not saying you exactly, but I think a lot of our fans blame Sigurdsson for the size of his transfer fee and hold that against him. It's not Sigurdsson's fault for the fee it's Evertons.

Since he's been out we've lost 1 out 7 (to City), won 3 and drawn 3. That's why I feel he's not massively missed.

Rooney's played about 3 different roles and scored 10, 2 assists, been in and out the squad, but more actively involved in open play (better or worse). He's our top goalscorer.

That's him being bad.

As mentioned in the thread before. Regradless of the fee, he's not an upgrade on what we had.

Still if I had a choice I would still play Gylfie ahead of Rooney, Rooney has been crap since Gylfie has been injured. Gylfie has also been played out of position and rarely gives the ball away unlike Rooney. Don't dislike Rooney but the last 5 or 6 weeks he has been awful.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with our competition. Bolasie has been a part of those sides as well. Seems like we don't need a new wide midfielder.

Still debatable. In a team full of players who don't want the ball, Rooney is the only one that does want it and actively engages play. Again for better or worse as he has been poor since Xmas.

However, Gylfi let's the game go by rather than actively try to change it.

And he hasn't been playing out of position. He's also played in his favoured number 10 and been completely anonymous.

Personally, if we're wanting to get anywhere or win things, both need replacing.

If rooney wants the ball so much then why does he give it away so often :hayee:

How to reputations develop?

I keep reading people saying Gylfi doesn't give the ball away whilst Rooney/Barkley do.

Sigurdsson makes about 27 passes a game of which 76% are accurate.
Rooney makes 44 at 77%
Barkley made 50 at 83%

So whilst it is factually accurate that Sigurdsson gives the ball away less per 90 it is because he touches the ball half as often.

Not sure that’s a fair comparison given he’s spent most of his time here shoved out wide, with the other 2 you’ve quoted being virtually always central.
