2017/18 Gylfi Sigurdsson

Massive, massive season coming up for him, has a lot to prove after being mostly gash for the majority of last season.

Was he mostly gash though Lou?

The entire team were gash from September to November.

Sigurdsson is as liable as any of them, yes, but he came into a squad where the manager had no idea how to use him or what system to play.

He was chucked in without having a pre-season (and yet there's still people saying he should just be able to slot right in because if you cost £45m then match fitness just isn't an issue!), and into four different roles (RM, AM, LM, CF).

His performances started to pick up as his sharpness came back.

That game against Southampton he was the only player to play anywhere near their level.

And by the time Sam came in he'd started to actually play well. He was linking up great with Rooney - despite Sam's comments (against several facts) that him and Rooney couldn't play together.

He continued to play well from that point until he got injured. Whether playing from the left - where he had no support from Martina so had to try and do it all by himself, and then had to track back and help Martina out - or centrally.

He's had a 6/10 season. But in terms of players who have something to prove, I'd say while he certainly does need to improve, he's far down on the list of players who actually need to step it up and prove their worth keeping.

Some of the shouts on here are disgraceful like he's the worst player they've ever clapped eyes on, Stop looking at the price tag before you talk about him because that's not his value, We all know that.

Just people trying to be edgy on the forum. It's the catch 22 of Everton in this forum. If someone is world class they're too good for us and everyone else is gash.

It's like people don't realise we are consistently 7th in the league.

For someone who didn't have a pre-season he eventually grew into the team and was playing well. He was getting better as the season progressed. Like people are saying we have to forget the price tag as we paid well over the odds. Not the players fault but to say he is or was gash is ridiculous

£45m for a 29 year old still makes me laugh.
He’s a technical player, not an athlete though. And with modern conditioning and if he looks after himself he can stay at his peak a lot longer than players could 10-15 years ago.
Covered 11km of grass on Saturday - more than any another Iceland player. He most certainly is an athlete.

But yeah... stuff like this doesn't matter anyway because he's 29 and we chose to spend £45m on him, according to GOT experts :coffee:

Not only covered that distance, but after being out for so long too. Only had what, 2 games back since being injured.

People keep saying this nonsense about him not running and being lazy. Granted I only saw him live 3 times last season, but his work rate is fine and he covers a heck of a lot of ground. He's not got great pace so people seem to confuse this with being lazy. .

The shift he put in on Saturday against a good team, and with only 2 halves of football to his name since March was pretty outstanding tbh. He had a good game and ran out of legs. Understandable I'd suggest. I like him and think he'll be better this year.

Over priced but a quality player. when u pay that sum of money for him , then you play him in his correct position. Insanity by koeman playing him out wide.
