The direction of the ball was ending up in Stanley Park mate.

BTW the ref 5 yds away was giving a corner until , the linesman 30 yds away puts the flag accross his chest to say penalty.

All fans not just us would be calling for a pen , that goes with the territory.

Biggest clue is "was that intentional handball when challenging for a ball hit at pace from 1 yard away ? "
Handballs don't have to be intentional anymore. Deliberate handball is a different part of the law.

If that happens in midfield there is no way a free kick is given.
It did not prevent a goal as the shot was ballooning well over the bar. It was 100% only given as a result of appeals and protestations by numerous City players who put pressure on the Ref.
It makes no difference where the ball was going.

I agree, but some are claiming it was given as it was 'preventing a goalscoring opportunity' which it wasn't. The hand ball rule should be consistantly applied no matter which area of the pitch it occurs. The shouts of "penalty" from City players absolutely changed the refs mind.

Yet its brought up in every conversation even by Clattenberg.

The rules were far simpler before "people" started to fix things.
Same with offside , its either offside or not .edit
Heres another

That would be great if that was the case. Linesman 35yds away gives a pen, yet against Spurs a linesman let's us play on after a supposed foul from Gomes when he was about 15 yards away.

I don't see how it didn't go to VAR and everyone uses common sense and can see

1. He's less than 2 yards away
2. It wasn't a scoring opportunity as the ball was about to hit the bloody moon
That what I thought the ball was going to clear the Park End. You might as well take a pot shot at someone’s head hoping they may orotect themselves and win a pen. You would argue his arms are in a natural position.

Didn't like how the ref was influenced by City's protests. Fairly sure some rule was brought in about not harassing the ref. No idea if it still exists, the rules morph so much. Fairly sure Doucoure was booked not so long back for protesting something relatively politely.

The unnatural position description is open to all sorts of interpretation. Possibly deliberately to allow moody decisions.

Would not be surprised to see one similar (not necessarily in our games) not given later this week. Hopeless inconsistencies.
That is something that has to changed. For me every player asking for penalty should be given yellow cards on the spot.

Deliberate or not is not in the rule.

He hasn't made himself bigger to me, and his arm is in a natural position (every time I see someone say that an arm at the side or behind the body is natural I lose my mind, neither of those are natural).

If this is handball then there needs to be a different punishment. An indirect free kick at the spot of the infraction, something like that. Unfortunately that probably brings more subjectivity into the equation which is no good as well.

Penalty or not we didn't deserve to win yesterday. I don't think it was a clear cut pen or no pen. I knew as soon as the linesman gave it that it wouldn't be overturned. Just got to take it on the chin and the players need to get themselves up for a tough game at wolves. If we can get a point from that game then it will be something to build on following a poor run of results

We would have been cry corruption if it wasn’t given for us.
Obviously it wouldn’t have been given for us.
I don't think it's a penalty, because the position of Onana's arm is justified. But, given the refs have to make about ten considerations in about five seconds, I can see why the ref (or in this case the linesman) has given it. I think VAR has worked in the way they say it is supposed to, because the judgement that Onana's position isn't justified isn't 'clearly and obviously' wrong.

The problem is the bias. This might be given in a game between two sides they've judged to be big. This might be given in a game between two sides judged not to be big. Is it given against one of the big six (seven in time) for the small rest? Absolutely no chance.
