2024/25 Harrison Armstrong

So many games this year where we've needed a bit of incision in the final third and a bit of ball retention in our own half when under pressure.

A bit bewildering that he's only getting a run out now. The old school of thought said that young players needed protecting. Nowadays youngsters have much better decision making and are much better prepared physically. If you're good enough now, you're old enough. Simple as that really.

Another instance of Dyche's outdated approach being overtaken.

Plus, how else are you meant to learn the rhythm of the premier league? Loans to the Championship and then watching Prem games from the bench just mean a lot of 20 year olds float about in the lower echelons of the leagues and never fulfil their potential

I thought he was good. I'd also be tempted to put him out on loan this window now.

…imagine being 17, living at home in the area you’ve been raised in, just breaking into the first team at a PL club your familiar with and being sent to a team where you’ll almost certainly struggle for game time and a manager who’s aim is not looking after your development.

More likely to ruin the lad.

I mean you have created a scenario in your head where he struggles for game time. He could also go to a club that plays him every week. Who knows. I usually lean into a scenario where I want players to be playing more senior football than youth football when they reach a certain level.

The reason I think a loan move may make sense rather than staying is because in his position if all players are fit, we have a lot of options and I think he's better than to play in the youth teams at this point, but not quite at the level where he can play for us each week.

He should be playing for us every week.

He really shouldn't. He had a good performance in a poor game against a poor League 1 side. It wasn't however a performance to me that looked like he was anywhere near ready to step up and do it weekly in the PL. That's fine. Not every young player is capable of that. What he did show though is that he's ready for senior football at some level.

….erm, it’s Dyche who gave him his debut and brought him through, Joey. Apparently he selected the team last night.
I took it as most of it was say Dyche's team. But Baines changed a player or 2 the way he spoke in the pre match Interview. We just would not know who.

Behave. Needs kept here and introduced into more and more games gradually. Going on loan to, Peterborough let's say does him no good.
I’d like to see him in and amongst the first team for us every week. We’ve got a lot of midfielders leaving at the end of the season, the opportunity is there along with Tim and Garner - a young midfield core to develop. I get scared when an academy player gets looked at by City/Arsenal etc (as Armstrong is reportedly being) and not getting them involved properly. Almost guarantees them leaving. If they’re interested, surely it means there’s something there? Him going on a dead loan would just mean another year down on his contract before we let him go for buttons. Tie him down long term and give him a chance to develop with the first team here.

I think we have far too many options in the position he will be competing for. Post Summer he won't. There's an argument to keep him here so when those lot do leave he's bedded in with the first team and it's an easier transition but watching him last night, he looked like someone to me that needs to have more gametime in a senior environment.

He thinks loans don't work even though have proven to time after time, in this case I don't think we can afford to loan him out could play a few games/sub that could well help us
