Heard a rumour about the Manager interview process and rationale behind appointing Benitez

he should go and actually manage elsewhere.
needs to go out into the wild and find a managers job of his own to test himself
This certainly seems to be the popular view, i.e. that he needs to 'learn his trade' elsewhere.
In many industries however, apprenticeship is a tried and tested formula.
In principle I see nothing wrong with him learning his trade under a succession of managers here at Everton.
Whether it will work out or not remains to be seen.
I can't recall many reds saying that Paisley or Fagan needed to 'prove' themselves elsewhere prior to their appointments. Neither of them did a bad job from what I remember.

Complete nonsense. We stupidly seem to pay for more in wages than any other team would. A bunch of managers aren’t goi g to reject the biggest payday of their lives because they have to keep a staff member on.

I was told that out of all of the managers that were interviewed for the manager's job, only Rafael agreed to retain Ferguson in the coaching setup?

So I don't know if this is a complete fabrication, or if it is true, I have only heard it 2nd hand so wanted to ask if anyone else knew about this?

I guess my question is that after serving under several different managers if the above is to be believed do you think the board are seriously considering making Duncan the next Everton Manager?

Personally, I think this would be a masterstroke, mirroring a formula that has worked incredibly successfully at clubs likes Liverpool and Barcelona. Creating an Everton Managerial DNA, Ferguson, Baines, Coleman - each with Everton in their blood and who understand what it means to the fans and our community to play for the shirt and allow us the chance to use Brands and his future successor to develop, identify and engage talent without it costing the earth.

What's wrong with creating the Everton way as a philosophy for success?
because the 'Everton way' over the last 25 years has been riddled with failure.

Mate 100% agree with you, what I don't understand is the lack of communication about what's wrong with owning that plan - in the main any supporter who truly loves the club would want a Dynasty built on players who have worn the shirt and loves the club. I hate Liverpool with every fibre of my being but they got it right and had success after success - what's wrong with wanting that for us.
Thing is the ex players we have on staff have hardly been involved in an age of glorious success. DF in a long ago FA Cup win is hardly likely to impress today's squad.

Maybe they were ready or it was clear they had the right credentials.

My point was that he's worked through a few regimes now. Managers of different styles and calibre too. If he's not ready or there are doubts then he should probably go elsewhere. He might not even get the chance. If thst is indeed what he wants.

There's no one route to progression in any industry. Personally I've benefitted from moving on in my trade and having a fresh start.

If you are looking to commit Hari Kari on this site, then suggest former players in charge.

Jobs for the boys, blah, blah, blah .....

The club currently has no DNA, it is a hotchpotch of various managers who have systematically wrecked the squad, by accident or design, since Moyes. A long term appointment is needed, with a manger who has a clear plan, and we have to buy into that as fans, board and throughout the club.

IF Benitez is the start of that, then all to the good. As to your rumours, frankly it is done now, so who cares?
Fair enough, but I think the 'jobs for the boys' tag is applicable only with that 80's/90's player crop those that still need to maintain the lifestyle, those that just missed out on the really big salaries - I think today's crop of Everton players, particularly the likes of Baines and Coleman the motivation is not financial - they don't need to work as 99% of them are set for life...

If the club has no DNA, then what's wrong with wanting to try and build one.

"...various managers who have systematically wrecked the squad, by accident or design, since Moyes" If you believe that then why would another manager be different, I agree the club needs a plan but that should never be dedicated by the Manager, that's where we have gone wrong in the past....

As for Hari Kari well, I am happy to have a discussion with anyone, as long as they are open

Hmm, i'm not convinced about this 'magic formula'. I accept that it worked when Paisley took over from Shankley (and every half-wit pundit has parroted its effectiveness since) but i'm not sure that the subsequent evidence supports the alleged effectiveness. I don't think that Fagan was there long enough/successful enough to count. There has been numerous coaches who have stepped in as temporary/caretaker managers when a successful manager has moved on to bigger and better things, they don't stay around for long. As for us, we tried it with Harvey who managed to turn a team of league winners into also-ran's within a few seasons.

"There's one little thing Rafael"

"Oh yes?"

"Wed need you to agree on keeping Duncan on"

"Really? But why, he just seems to hang around Finch farm looking after cones and shouting encouragement"

"Well, he's actually not the assistant manager. We tell him that, but he's actually our security arrangements. That job he did on the burglars, brilliant stuff. Saves us a fortune".

"Si, si, I can live with that".
