Heard a rumour about the Manager interview process and rationale behind appointing Benitez

I was told that out of all of the managers that were interviewed for the manager's job, only Rafael agreed to retain Ferguson in the coaching setup?

So I don't know if this is a complete fabrication, or if it is true, I have only heard it 2nd hand so wanted to ask if anyone else knew about this?

I guess my question is that after serving under several different managers if the above is to be believed do you think the board are seriously considering making Duncan the next Everton Manager?

Personally, I think this would be a masterstroke, mirroring a formula that has worked incredibly successfully at clubs likes Liverpool and Barcelona. Creating an Everton Managerial DNA, Ferguson, Baines, Coleman - each with Everton in their blood and who understand what it means to the fans and our community to play for the shirt and allow us the chance to use Brands and his future successor to develop, identify and engage talent without it costing the earth.

What's wrong with creating the Everton way as a philosophy for success?
And where did one hear this rumour.

Honestly I think we are still a sellers market. I think Nuno would have bent over backwards to manage us, but our preference was for RB's track record. It seems Nuno wants half of portugal working snd playing for him so one additional coach can't have been an issue.

I think its a good thing Benitez has kept Dunc in place and I would have wanted any manager to do the same.

When I heard the rumour that Potter turned us down that was the real grim point of the summer.

Heard he turned us down as well. He was our first choice I believe.

Hmm, i'm not convinced about this 'magic formula'. I accept that it worked when Paisley took over from Shankley (and every half-wit pundit has parroted its effectiveness since) but i'm not sure that the subsequent evidence supports the alleged effectiveness. I don't think that Fagan was there long enough/successful enough to count. There has been numerous coaches who have stepped in as temporary/caretaker managers when a successful manager has moved on to bigger and better things, they don't stay around for long. As for us, we tried it with Harvey who managed to turn a team of league winners into also-ran's within a few seasons.
Oh I'm not yet convinced that it's a formula that would work either, but surely this is exactly the point. Most temporary/caretaker managers are simply thrown in at the deep end.
What better way to learn the day to day problems and complexities of the job than under the mentorship of a succession of managers with different management styles/tactics etc?

I can quite believe his associates would spin that- given the way he works with agents to keep his stock high - but I think the choice was ours.
Pretty sure it wasn't mate. He was already being lined up by Spurs before we started talking to Benitez....

I posted this before Benitez appointment and still believe it to be true.

For what it's worth here is a thought on this. (or is it a conspiracy theory)
I think the board genuinely want to build a dynasty. I believe that rightly or wrongly they have devised a plan.
They have already pencilled in Duncan Ferguson as a future Everton manager.
I'm sure that Carlo Ancelotti accepted that part of his 'job description' would be that he acts as a mentor for Duncan and would 'train him up' to be the next manager.
Carlo leaving early put a spanner in the works, as the board feel it is not yet Duncan's time.
Whoever gets the job this time will have to agree the plan. Nuno obviously didn't, as he wanted to bring in his own staff. Benitez has agreed to continue Carlo's mentorship of Duncan.
Now this may be total bollix. . . . . . . . . . . or it may not.
Top tip - get your money on Duncan Ferguson becoming our next but one manager ;)
lol

They've had ample time and opportunities to install that galloot as manager.

It isn't happening in a minth of sundays...unless Kenwright took ownership again.

I dont think Alisher Usmanov knows who Duncan Ferguson is to be honest...

Yes, but not because Dunc is being groomed to take over.

Moshiri is fed up with having to pay off coaching staff every year to 18months when a manager fails.

Rafalafel BenEatez agreed to work with what we already had because
1) of his own arrogance
2) He's not that bothered if he fails as he's get a huge payoff anyway.

Fair points, but it's not like it's a key role, the nature of football today means as a manager like it or not you are a brand and your future success depends on your success and to get that success you need to delegate and to have a team that you 100% trust in carrying out your plans and strategy.

You are falling into the trap that a lot of supporters do and think it's about money....it's not - true Prem clubs pay very well but regardless if you are paid a million a year or a week if you can't retain your job it's a mute point, so if you are putting yourself at risk you are not going to do it with one of your hands tied behind your back...
Wow, how condescending, you’ve barely read my points but are telling me “ you are falling into a trap”. And yet you believe that the Manager is not a key role in our club !! I’m tempted to ask just who you think , below Moshiri, has a key role in our club or even why we need a manager if it’s not a key role.
