Heitinga

Not impressed, he is already one of our highest earners and will probably now sign a new contract until he is in his 30's i.e. another player with no sell on value.

Moyes should wait until january and if we get a bid between 6-8m then sell him. this should allow us to bring in replacements for nev and distin who are off at the end of the season.

people say you shouldnt think like that but lets face it we have to, as soon as rodwell made his debut for us he was already earmarked as the sacrificial lamb.
Lol nope.

Anyone expecting a genuine hard-case in this day an age will be waiting forever.

I can't think of one who'd even be mentioned in the same breath as some from the past.

If your trying to paint yourself as one you'll be better trying it elsewhere. as the hardest player that ever lived has not long packed it in for us.

I only judge him on his football and he's the best we've got from the back.

2 for 3 swap? Not a good idea with our squad size...

no cause he acts the hard man all the time but ****s out of tackles like the one against dj campbell for blackpool when they were in the premier. jags and distin all day long long for me.

How does he?

You are talking about one incident from like 2-3 years ago.

Are we told hold Distins moment of sheer and utter stupidity in the semi final against him forever?

I wouldn't sell him in Jan unless Moyes and Co. got someone lined up that they know is a can't miss and will immediately contribute. Heitinga runs hot and cold and right now he's having trouble in our new attacking game. However he's talented, was arguably our best player last year and should figure it out. Plus Distin is old and Jags has been injury prone. Johnny is a heck of a 3rd option back there. W/O Heits you are stretching yourself very thin at the position. 7th would be a pipe dream if we end up seeing Hibbert and/or Neville back at CB for an extended period of time.

Heitinga seems to need a good run of games to get going or some responsibility placed on him. He was excellent when guiding Shane Duffy when he played a few games last season.

but have to look a few years ahead to the future tho, and ensure we have money coming in from player sales. rodwell was like our spare player we knew we could always get money for him if we needed to and sell him at any point over the last few seasons if we got desperate. we no longer have that option.

We will not get enough money for Heitinga to replace him with more than one player of equal ability.

then the other option is to keep him and then either sell him on the cheap like cahill or let him leave for free.

mucha, hibbert, baines, jags, distin, neville, osman, pienaar and howard are all likley to retire here or be so old they leave for a minimal fee.

we have a sell before you buy policy,

figure it out.

That post doesn't answer the point i made, which is that selling him wouldn't allow us to actually strengthen the squad as a whole. Which is the point of selling players.

You sell a player for a high fee and then use the money to get in two or more players. We sell Heitinga and that leaves us with two CBs, one of whom is 34 years old. That means you'd automatically need to be looking to buy TWO centre backs, one to replace the player you've just sold and the other to replace Distin. See how stupid that is ?

The 'we need to sell to buy' statement is a myth from the 2012-13 season onwards for at least the next few years imo. The new PL tv rights deal is absolutely massive and will end up bringing in an extra £20m+ per season for us. Couple that with the fact that our debts have reduced and the banks seem to have loosened their grip and i don't buy this line that we HAVE to sell any more.

(My figure of £20m is actually conservative. If we finished in the same league position next year as we did last year we would get £15m extra alone. Then you add on the increased figure that every club gets simply be being in the PL (which is the same for each team), and the fact that each TV appearance is worth more, and it may well be closer to £30m)

Very complimentary about us again:

I really love it at Everton. Everton is a beautiful club with great fans.

Right now we do have the squad to reach the Europa League. I want to reach the highest possible. I want to qualify for European football with Everton. With this squad we deserve that.

I agree that it takes time to settle into the team. He's never started the season as a first choice centre back in his whole time at Goodison, Distin and Jagielka have had that luxury, yet he proved consistently last season that he's quality in that position.

Delighted the club want to keep him and he wants to stay. Thought during the summer it wouldn't be renewed for various reasons.

so you think we should eventually sell every single player in our squad? if distin is used in a rotation policy he may have another 2 years left, heitinga's only 28, he should have at least another 5/6 years left with us, if he performs all that time that's way better value for money as opposed to selling him for virtually the same as he's worth now. we have young duffy coming through who can replace distin anyway

We may be able to get enough to get a player of greater potential and create room for another player with potential to play though.

Depends on what you mean by greater potential. There aren't many CBs around I'd rather have than Heitinga when he's on form.

We don't need to create room for players with potential anyway really, our squad is tiny as it is.

If we want any chance of competing properly in Europe then we need strength in depth, we either need to invest without selling or sell a player who will get us a lot of money and allow us to buy three or even four players.

Enter Fellaini.....

I like Duffy and I get why people want him to get more game time but I like having three top quality centrebacks in front of him too. I don't really see it as a problem we need to solve by selling one of them.
