Henry Onyekuru

Playing devil's advocate as I'd love to see him get game time for us but surely it's obvious why some could see it as a good thing? If he's denied a work permit again the earliest he could play for us is the 2020/21 season and we need funds to improve our squad now. If we could garner a big chunk of the funds through selling one player that's never kicked a ball for us and still might not be able to for another season then it's certainly understandable why we would cash in on him.

Despite the possibility of him turning about to be a genuinely class player that would be a key player for us there's also a possibility that he's far from being a 40 million pound player and isn't cut out for the Premier League. Just because Bayern apparently want him doesn't necessarily mean he's a player that can take us up a level, big teams can sign duds. West Brom were once getting ~30 mil offers for Berahino, ended up selling him for about 10 mil and he didn't score a goal until 3 seasons later after dropping down a division.

I think the transfer rumour is pure fiction but I think I'd rather see what Brands could get us with the 40 million for next season and replacing him with somebody who can play for us now rather than dodging the 40 mil, possibly waiting another season to see if he can get a work permit and then hoping he's up to standard in this league.
Bayern have got form for signing rubbish aswell.

A £32m profit is useful in regards to trying to tie up the 2 loan players.

If that money is used to sign Zouma then I would be happy. Need a solid back 4 to build from.

Have you seen him play? Perhaps Bayern are happy to pay £40m and let him be a big part player for a couple of years.

We can use the money now to reinvest into players that will play now.

If the rumours are true it’s £32m profit on a player who hasn’t kicked a ball for us.

That’s a good model for us to progress to be honest. Especially given how well the signings brands/silva have done.
The problem with this model is that finding quality attacking players is the most difficult thing to do. Having someone that is wanted by a club the like of Bayern is not something we easily do. The only other player we've had in that category lately is Richarlison and we want £100 million for him instead. The money only helps if you can replace what you've lost and what concerns me is it's hard to say exactly how much is lost by selling Henry now. I'd like to see him tried here before we bin him even if another year on loan is required.

Bayern have bought lots of rubbish in the past. Them being interested does not mean he’s boss, fits the style of play or the PL at all.

He’s entirely untested. Has not trained with the first team. Has not embedded into a squad.

It’s easy money for low risk tbh.

But what if... isn’t tangible.

Money doesn't play football. I see an exciting young talent and unless we replace him with someone else to me any amount is going to be disappointing. I feel that same about Lookman.

Lookman, for all his little flashes, isn’t at the level we need. At all. In fact, right now, he’s as much a liability on the pitch as he is an asset.

Disagree but this isn't the Lookman thread so I'm not going there. Him and Onyekuru both haven't played enough to show that they are or are not good enough yet.

But it buys footballers... and 40 million would allow us to replace him with someone else... we sell players for money and pay for the replacements with money.... and the teams with the most money and most expensive players are usually the better sides.

The 40 million pound offer story is most likely completely fictional but if it was on the table we should take it.
