Just out of interest can anyone else remember such a saga with any other player for any club like this? Not saying that this is a typical Everton situation just curious. May be an indication of how the club was being run at the time by Koeman and Walsh et al.
Wasn’t Anderson Silva a similar ordeal for us?

I think I remember another, it was us again) pretty sure we managed to sign Alex Nyarko on a four year deal with a 3 year WP or something along those lines.

Pretty much. 5 year deal on 4 year permit. Payed him out on his last year. He was even useful when he came back from loan.

Tbh, I’ve never seen him play, so have no idea if he’s worth persevering with, but can someone explain to me (in simple terms) how he can be a potential signing for the likes of Antwerp, Gent, Bayern etc, and yet is not eligible to play for an English club? i.e. Belgium, Germany & England are EU countries, with (currently) freedom of movement of labour.

It's an FA thing not a UK thing if I remember correctly. Those countries don't care about work permits.

Freedom of movement is only for EU nationals not Nigerians.

Yes I know that, obviously, but he’s playing in the EU, which we are currently part of. So then it must be each country’s football authorities own rules? Not a very level playing field, how can the English FA get away with this?

Of course they have work permits in EU countries Nymz. They are just harder to get in the UK. The FA do adise the Home Office on suggested guidelines though to protect British born players.

That's what I mean by "they don't care" as in I can't see them ever rejecting one for a football player whereas we're all 'protect Tom Davies' about it all.

Even with restrictions we still have lowest percentage of home grpwn players in the prem. By quite a bit too.
