Remember when Tories practised anti-Semitism, rather than hypocritically complaining about it?
Racist: Gulzabeen Afsar made an anti-Semitic comment about Ed Miliband [Composite: YouTube/Getty].
Conservative Gulzabeen Afsal, who was standing as a council candidate in Derby, said she could never support “the Jew” – meaning Ed Miliband in particular and also Judaism in general.
Mr Miliband describes himself as a Jewish atheist.
In contrast with the comments of Labour’s Naz Shah and Ken Livingstone this year, Ms Afsal’s remark was quite clearly anti-Semitic. She made no attempt to hide her adverse feelings towards Jews.
The Conservative Party initially gave her a slap on the wrist. Describing her comment as “offensive and wrong”, a spokesperson merely said, “She has removed it an apologised.”
It was only when Jewish organisations reacted angrily that the Tories realised that perhaps the UK still frowns upon Jew-haters and decided to suspend Ms Afsal.
Now fast-forward to 2016. While Zac Goldsmith’s campaign to become mayor of London was fronted by doorstep activisits referring to rival Sadiq Khan as “the Muslim” (in an eerie reflection of Ms Afsal’s remark), the Conservatives bayed for blood when one of their own media activists unleashed a carefully-timed revelation about remarks by Naz Shah that could be considered anti-Semitic.
Needless to say, while the Labour Party is carrying out an inquiry into possible incidents of racism within its ranks, the Conservatives are doing nothing at all about their own problem.
The moral of the story is this: If you want to find a racist, anti-Semite or Islamophobe, look in the Conservative Party.
Oh, and here’s some advice for the Tories. Perhaps that renowned Christian, David Cameron, should go back to his Bible:
“You hypocrite! First take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s.”
A Tory candidate has been forced to apologise for a vile racial slur against Ed Miliband.
Gulzabeen Afsal, who is standing as a Tory councillor in Derby, said she could never support “the Jew”.
It is the first time Mr Miliband’s ethnic background has been raised by an opponent in the election campaign.
“With anti-semitism on the rise across Europe, it is abhorrent and terrifying that a prospective Conservative politician would say something like this,” a spokesman for Derby Labour Party raged.
The Conservative party and it's supporters has a long tradition of anti-semitism. It is painful to observe the condemnation by people of the one party who has consistently stood up to racist and fascist attitudes whilst ignoring the insidious racism of the Boris Johnsons of the Conservative Party.
And with regards to Tory Party backers the Daily Mail, that paragon of virtue and truth, they never seems to mention the holidays of Lord Rothmere.
