Hilary Benn Sacked From The Shadow Cabinet - wider political debate

In a couple of weeks time I think you'll see Labour get a bounce out of that fairly well managed conference. By then the Tories will have had theirs and they'll be fighting like two ferrets in a sack.

I predict the polls in a fortnight will show only a 2/3 point Tory lead.

Even that would be a pretty desperate poll result don't you think? Usually the opposition would have a lead nevermind brexit and that there is an incumbent PM that no one voted for a year after the last election!! If labour had an electable leader they would be laughing now, or if the lib dems hadn't got into bed with the tories there would be a good chance they could have been the ones sitting opposite the despatch box come the next GE.

The tories can't believe their luck, they could commit murder and still win.

Not really. Politics is in a flux right now, yes Brexit happened but don't forget that was a Tory election commitment and it was fought (and largely won) by Tories; it would be daft to expect that they would get a kicking from voters for it. Also, May has had the most favourable coverage of any incoming Prime Minister - her almost total invisibility during the EU referendum has barely been commented upon.

As for "if Labour had an electable leader", this makes the mistake of assuming that there is a credible alternative in the PLP; I think the past 18 months demonstrates that there isn't.

WTFs going on with that "hair", btw.

Never really thought much about it, but since Blair, (Love or loath, he was elected 3 times), they have been a bit Man United esq in finding a replacement.

I would rather watch paint dry!

So how can you consider your opinions to be well informed?

Heaven forfend you would just go off a media narrative without looking into details.

I've waited a long time for a speech like his today. Gave a glimmer of hope amongst all the agenda driven vitriol hurled at him that there's a chance for ordinary people to defend themselves from those who would blindly follow an austerity policy supported by members on both sides of the despatch box.

I agree with the in flux statement but labour's policy was support to stay in the eu, that means they can tap into the near 50% that are disaffected voters at the moment and round on the government who caused us to leave.

The truth is they aren't making any inroads at all, this stuff should be an open goal for the opposition but as JC secretly or not so secretly wanted out anyhow he isn't.

Andy Burnham would have been just fine if he kept to MOR politics. Not a great leader by any means but may have united the party and that would be damn state better than it is now.

I had an hospital appointment just seen the highlights wow getting Cheared by momentum in his Labour heartland wow
No substance on this big money tree, and can't learn in his labour heartlands that voted Brexit who were Labour voters big mistake IMO!
Did Len Maclustit write his script by any chance as he was threading moderate Labour MPs this am he would withdraw funds from them in the next GE great democracy at work there - NOT!

It was also government policy for remain. As mentioned May was hidden away but not highlighted for her absence, Corbyn campaigned, some say unenthusiastically, I don't agree, and is basically blamed for the vote result on his own.

If you're prepared to, it is quite easy to see the hidden forces terrified by Corbyn and his popularity, doing everything they can to smear, undermine and trash his name. It happened to Wilson too and his infamous 'gnomes of Zurich' comment.
