Give us a break Esk, Maggie Thatcher rescued this country from the far left and changed it from the 'sick man of Europe' into a growing economy. Not one Labour leader ever since has done anything that even came close. Every time we have had a Labour Government we have ended up in the financial mire and every time it's taken a Conservative Government to get us out of it. Your financial forecasts and observations are as accurate as your other forecasts, I'm sorry to say.....

Margaret Thatcher destroyed the industrial base of this country, and caused more devision, pain and suffering than any other peace time leader.

In my late teens I saw the impact she had on my family, my neighbourhood, the city of Liverpool and other working class areas in the North and Midlands.

She destroyed communities and created the 'want' culture which has caused so many social problems since.

Throughout her time in power those living in poverty (defined as income below 60% median income) rose from 13% to 22 % of the population.

Terrible times caused by political dogma.

No she didn't. It wasn't political dogma, she took back control of the country and turned it around. You have been enjoying the spoils of her victory ever since.......you can't admit it because it doesn't fit the left wing agenda, but she saved this country and history will remember it such.......now name one Labour PM since who improved the country without turning it into a financial basket case........

That is largely correct but she had help from others who were intransident over their beliefs like Scargill. It would have eventually happened that coal would cease as a fuel but it was difficult at that time to envisage that. Looking at the car industry back then, for example that was largely self destructive.

As for dogma, to me that is also demonstrated by Corbyn and what is happening to the Labour party, they are certainly not helping to rein in the current Tory lot.

Without Maggie we'd still have the union activists running wild with bodies going unburied. I really hope you're not suggesting that Blair or Brown were even in the same league as Thatcher. Both of whom contributed to the biggest overseas disasters and financial crash we'd seen in years........
