On this day in 1915, the passenger liner Lusitania was sunk by a German U-boat off the coast of Ireland, resulting in the deaths of 1,198 people, including 128 Americans. The sinking of the Lusitania was a major factor that eventually led the United States to enter World War I.

It carried weapons, no? Anyway, it took 2 more years for Americans to join, reason was intercepted telegram by German ambassador trying to get Mexico to join their side i belive.
I mean what a stupid idea, what use would Mexico be, they were poor, unstable and devastated by civil wars.

Their choice of allies were always poor, Austria-Hungary in WW1 was dying empire long before 1914 (nationalism of its many peoples ripping them apart), Italy in WW2, less said the better
