Holgate Racially Abused By Firmino - The Guardian

precedent for a ban even if he's not found guilty of racist comments right there

It really isn't though is it.

The referee is the games arbiter, calling a Ref a cheat is completely different to making a derogatory remark about an opponent.

A perfect example is a court of law whilst it is quite permissible to question the integrity of a witness do that to the judge and you will be held in contempt of court.

It's obvious that this was all straightened out on the night. The fact that we haven't heard a peep from anyone since suggests this.

There was a newspaper report that it was sorted out at half time.

The matter seemed to have been settled at half time when Everton's backroom staff cleared up the misunderstanding with their defender, and that set up a wonderful tie, when Gylfi Sigurdsson equalised James Milner's opening penalty.

Perhaps because the incident was put in the Referee's report then it has to be investigated but if that was the case why has it taken so long to sort out.

There was also a report that after the game Holgate along with Walsh and Allardyce went to the referees room to make the complaint official

Bizarre statement in The Mirror here. How can they possibly know? Almost like they’re making it up...

He lost his had completely in his first half altercation with Roberto Firmino – and he got it wrong too, because he clearly misheard what the Brazilian said – but showed the presence and maturity to sort himself out immediately.

McFadden got sent off in a game for us for calling the ref a cheat.

It was confirmed the next day this was totaly not true, no one spoke to anyone at half time, never trust anything the Mirror says

Wasn’t it Dunn? Can’t remember his first name, I’m sure he works for the mirror said the same on the Sunday supplement. He’s a Liverpool fan. If this was sorted it would have been all over the media. And the local press, I’m sure both clubs would have realised statements. @Dabluez

I haven't seen that report have you got a link for it ?

Nope because I don't keep them handy tbh but if you go to page 1 on this thread included in the report it states Holgate and the referee spoke again.

The daily mirror just continued to push the "puta" angle

If it was all a misunderstanding at half time, strange how Allardyce didn't confirm this and confirmed Walsh will be overseeing any kind of investigation and Klopp said they will co-operate with whatever they can.

If it "was put to bed" then I'm pretty sure at full time they would have all said this and Madley would not have spoken to Holgate again

Edit - Daily Mail 9th January

"Accompanied after the game by manager Sam Allardyce and director of football Steve Walsh, Holgate complained to Madley that Firmino had used the word 'negro'.

What will happen knowing the FA is that Holgate will get something like a 6 game ban for what he said as a kid, and Firmino will be cleared of any racist remarks , but will get a 2 game ban for offensive language (the whore, bitch bit)

Burnley striker Andre Gray only got a 4 match ban for calling for gay people to burn and die. Those comments were made when he an adult. Hopefully common sense will prevail and Holgate will be asked to apologise for the comments he made as a kid and a line will be drawn under it.

It makes far more sense to use Holgate's comments to help educate young people rather than to look to punish him.

i find it incredibly strange that Firmino hasn't been charged.

Does that mean, as Rodriguez has been charged, the FA have a water-tight case against him but nothing on Firmino?

Because if there is currently no real proof against Rodriquez, why has he been charged? Shouldn't both accused be treated the same?

This can only pan out one way, and that's a witch hunt against Holgate.

That's what I find weird about why Rodriguez has been charged, and Firmino not. Also, I would love to know how they know what he said when supposedly when he was alleged to have said it he was holding his nose, surely his hand would be covering his mouth?

We are talking about the English FA here mate, consistency hasn't been one of their strong points over the years.
