Horse Racing

....Richard Johnson has announced his retirement. Terrific sportsman, so unlucky to be ‘bridesmaid’ to AP McCoy so many times in the jockey’s championship but a top rider and a top bloke.

Cracking jockey. Really odd to retire immediately before the national though, especially given that he's never won it. Surely you'd want one last go at it.

...Hobbs doesn’t have a contender & I’m not even sure if he was booked for a ride. Skelton & Hughes locked in a battle for the Championship, his star has fallen, he’s got a young family & a farm to run so he probably thought its time to get out whilst he’s in one piece.

For some reason, always think of him being an item with Zara Phillips but obviously that was some time ago.

That seems fair, though if it was me I'd be hanging about picking up an outsider who doesn't have a top rider on board. Was gutted he didn't win it on Balthazar King, my favourite horse of all time.

....Irish Grand National tomorrow. Heard Rachel Blackmore was riding Robin de Carlow a week ago so had a little interest @ 40-1. Novices have a good record in the race but it’s unproven over a distance & one of the owners thinks it might just lack a bit of fitness.

Regardless, have had an e/w ‘Rachel Double’, Robin de Carlow (Irish GN)/Minella Times (Grand National).

Ground has changed a lot in the last 48 hours in fairyhouse. Has dried out a lot . Horses that were fancied Thursday now look like there chance could be gone.
Espanito bello is one who might go close
I’m using the ground as an excuse for The Bosses Oscar.
But I’m not convinced they know what trip to run it over.

Just sat and picked the winners of all the races I’ve not had a bet in, yet all my bets running gash !! Everton, that.

I had Coko Beach e/w who was running great until the final jump then just disappeared. 150/1 winner, though. And it pissed it.
