Considering that our defence gives out relatively few chances and most of them are outside the box Howard's stats look a lot better than he actually is. Ie. stats say he's the 7th best in the prem last season, but a very large proportion of our teams goals conceded have been from Howard's errors. Imagine him with a mediocre PL defence. I think he's good enough to a decent backup keeper for someone.

That's exactly what he has when he plays for the national team and he does quite well

Question for everyone. If Howard gets beat on the ridiculous save he made and then saves the first one he actually conceded and the game still ends 2-2, are people still this mad? He saved one he shouldn't have and gave one he shouldn't have. Sometimes you have to take the good with the bad. I suspect he'll be back to top form very soon.

Unless you can get a player who limits or eliminates the bad, a fair amount think he makes to many errors.

I personally just feel like he doesn't do the basics well. We're spoilt in terms of what we compare him to as we've had two of the best about over the past 20 years. I'm not having a sneaky dig here but you see a lot more of what he does wrong when you watch him from the stands.

I've watched him from the stands plenty of times, albeit not with Everton. I agree he's not the most orthodox, but I don't see the copious amount of errors from him you seem to. Care to answer the question though. I'm just curious. Would you be as distraught as you are had he saved the first goal but given up the great save he made?

Summary of Howard:

Pros:
Brillant shot stopper.

Cons:
Being indecisive at times leads him to come off his line when he should stay put and vice versa...
He also doesn't command his box enough... Maybe he's scared to shout orders at Jags and Distin?

The thing that bothers me is they weren't "mistakes" like dropping the ball or a bad kick, you can accpet that stuff like that happens to every keeper.

Its the way he tried to save them, just so very very poor in his technique.
