Whenever the opposition has a corner against us, I'm always very worried about our defense...

Howard, did well against Swansea, but his problem has always been with commanding the area... especially with corners.

That said I don't want him gone, cause he is a good keeper on his day. However, I do think we should invest in a quality keeper in January, whether it be young or old. I don't rate Mucha much, so if Howard gets injured or is going through a spell of bad form, we really need a good keeper to step in.

Also, I think some people on here are taking things a bit too personal. Nothing wrong with a healthy debate.

A lot of the best keepers of five years back are just shot, now, Given, Schwarzer, Jaaskleainen, Robinson, James, Howard. It's a real low point in terms of premier league keepers right now.

Theres a sprinkling of quality Keepers around tho.

Cech is showing some decent recent form, Hart is always solid and that Belg fella from Sunderland impresses me, but yeah, theres not a great depth of quality out there.

It seems to be a case of who ever makes the least mistakes these days.

Howards still a very good keeper, that Newcastle goal aside I don't think he's done a major clanger for a while.
Southampton's goal was not really down to him there were no markers and the delivery was very good, he also made several key saves, as he did against Newcastle. I am more than happy to keep him, he's a great keeper and you surely don't keep defensive records like we have in the past without that being a fact.

Howard is fine if you want to fnish best of the rest.
But you could never rely on howard in the big games to pull of the saves to win you a league.

I would put Cech, Hart, Reina, friedle & lloris, de gea and Vorm ahead of howard.
But then I would put howard in the same bracket as Jaskerlinan, szczesny, mignolet and lindergaard.
And say he was better than the likes of Green, Shwartzer, Al Habsi, Given and Harper.

You do know that last season only 2 teams conceded less than us.

but you need to balance that argument in support of howard with the realisation that our manager is renowned for being overly cautious, focusing on containing the other team rather than them trying to contain us.

that has changed to some degree this season, but theres no doubt the high clean sheets has more to do with the other 10 players behind the ball than the keeper.
IMO

We were pretty gritty and back to basics the last few seasons. We will be more vulnerable now with our sexy attacking football so I'm pretty sure that we'll start conceding more. Where's the Butland money, Bill?
