This thread continues to crack me up but more importantly validates the fact that there are Evertonians who constantly confuse "form" with "not good enough."

Oh, and the two people who love this thread?

1) Tony Hibbert
2) Leon Osman

Erm what you saying about the Scouse Cafu and The Skem Messi lad?

Fantastic shot stopper (provided they're not from 25+ yards!) but an absolute Dracula.

If he was as good with crosses as he is saving one on ones he'd be world class. But he isn't, so for me he's not brilliant, but not as bad as Neiler makes out.

I have no problem with getting in competition for Howard. We have it in the national team with Guzan now that he's playing. But "our first priority to get another GK/replace Howard" - there are other positions that need depth. Namely, DM, LB and LM being three of them. GK is not #1 for me by a longshot.

By supporting our players you support the team. You are more than welcome to dislike players, but the amout of recent scapegoating on Tim takes it to a new level. I wasn't around for the Dustbin years. Sounds similar. (And Tim's stats do not justify the level of weirdness going on in here.)

Sorry, just on a side note, could we stop calling him "Dustbin". Reminds me of another forum...
I don't he has deserved to be called that, ever.

I can think of one game that stands out personally....

I hate nicknames full stop. All players for me should be treated like schoolboys. Last names only.

Im sure some do. But at the same time I dont think a dip in form is something which lasts for a year. He has been ropey for a while now.

That's my stance. He's not perfect (he is crummy on crosses into the box for both Everton and his national team - totally consistent and a problem in his game), but right now, fine with me.

When Moyes bothers to find this other fabulous keeper somewhere we'll have the conversation. Or when Howard starts to truly suck. A few games into the season? Meh. Keep on truckin' Tim.

And to be clear - I have no issue with competition. I just don't think we are going to go purchase a keeper without spending a crap load of money that's better than Tim. And apparently the Club agrees since we just signed him through 2016 or something like that. We have other priorities unless you want to see Phil Neville as Gibson's back up until he's 40.

If we're talking priorities, surely replacing under-performing 1st teamers is more important than getting decent squad players in? It doesn't appear at this point that Neville's performances are costing us points.

For me personally this is'nt recent. I've thought he was shoite for years.

+ Less goals conceded per game than any of the other keepers.
+ Second highest number of high cross catches per game (after Schwarzer)
+ Lowest number of defensive errors
- Poor number of missed crosses compared to other keepers

The only place where he falls behind a bit is in making sure he either clears the ball with a punch or catches the ball from a cross, which everybody knew anyway. In every other department he's a perfectly good keeper.

Then again, i think all the sensible people knew that anyway..

I would replace perfectly good keeper with best of a bad bunch, myself. But yeah, he's not the player he was but he's still aceptable if not outstanding at this level.

He's a better keeper than at least 4 of the keepers from the 13 teams who finished below us last season, in one of the best leagues in the world. I think 'perfectly good' describes him pretty well. The teams above us all have better goal keepers but the teams above us with the exception of Newcastle spend a lot more money than we do.

Anybody thinking we can get a markedly better keeper right now (rather than blooding a young one) than Howard without spending money we don't have is wrong.
