When was the last time Barkley had a cracking shot from outside the box and the confidence to take a run.

Maybe seeing Lukaku actually face the goals rather then always back towards goal trying to pass backwards.

Or a Coleman/Mirallas tangent run resulting in either a shot on goal or a cross other then coming to a stand still, making a few dummy feints and then a piss headed attempt at a cross.

Instead, what we at Everton do, is get to the edge of the box, pass around, maybe backwards a few times, side to side and then we lose the bloody ball and get caught on the counter attack.

How about just whipping it into the box once in a while and see what happens, like half the goals we concede to come from!

So yeah... Happy New Year blues.

When Barkley is making his trademark run towards the box you get the impression he doesn't know what he's gonna do with it when he gets within 25 yards - let alone other players trying to second guess him who are trying to make runs. The latter is very difficult against a decent organised back line.

The '1' in a 4-2-3-1 should be doing as you describe above to allow the any of the '3' to get beyond the back 4. Unfortunately Rom is a 'facing goal' player who would best suit a 2 up top system. Until that happens we will never see the best from him. We simply do not get enough players forward at the right times.
I do agree that we need to get balls in the box more often but having 2 strikers would force that on the team.

Teams can cross into our box far too easily - the full backs are not doing their jobs; which is unsurprising as neither of them are natural defenders

Time to change things up (which he unfortunately won't, but hey).

Robles (Christ, so long as he's our best option in goal we'll always be leaking goals right, left and centre. A pathetic goalkeeper)
-
Coleman
Jagielka
Stones
Oviedo
-
McCarthy (as a holding midfielder, to sit in front of the defence and literally do nothing more than protect them, get the ball and pass it to an attacking player - no offensive responsibilities whatsoever, he needs to help us defend, and sit deeper when the full backs are attacking)
-
Besic
Barkley (both central midfield, Besic deeper, Barkley attacking in a free role)
-
Kone
Mirallas (right and left wing or vice-versa)
-
Lukaku (being assisted by Kone and Mirallas in attacking)

To line up like this...

only thing I can see wrong with your set up is mirallas and barkley don't track back so besic and mc carthy will get pulled all over the place.

I was at the game today. Very nice of the Hull stewards to hand out free "School of Science" scarves. Obviously some sort of p-take.

To those of you who still think Martinez' troop will turn it around, stop kidding yourselves.

I am looking at our forthcoming fixtures and already planning for life in the Championship because I have seen MUCH better teams than EFC 14/15 get relegated in the past....

We took a gamble and it backfired. Mark my words, this is the end.

I've some reports by people on the web who also went to Hull and the resounding opinion is the away support are finished with Martinez, can you confirm/deny this ?

At the end when the players came over it was them that got the grief. Obviously, some were shouting for Martinez's head but I wouldn't say the 'away support are finished with Martinez'.
