I got absolutely slaughtered for saying exactly this when we got him - it was evident he wasn't being used right last season after the initial run until Christmas, and I had grave concerns about £20m+ on a player who didn't suit the way we had set up to play, under a manager who refuses to change how he sets up to play.

And I do like him. I've said many times he's going to be a world class slotter if players in teams who are more direct and let him run off the shoulder of defenders. But he's never, ever going to be able to do that here under Martinez.

In fact, if Martinez is sacked this month if we lose to WBA and Hull today, Lukaku is the one reason I know we'll stay up, because anyone coming in would use him in a direct game and he'll probably bag a goal every 1.5 games or something to daft in that system.

I actually agree mate.

But I do have a question. I think we had a chat a while ago about how Javier Hernandez isn't right for the way we play.

But now neither is Lukaku. Very different player to Hernandez.

What type of striker does fit the way we play??

Honest question as I have no idea anymore.

I want a performance from Barkley today. Not remotely arsed what position he's playing. He needs to pull his finger out.

I'm sick of watching someone so talented not trying to influence a game, especially when he's playing for Everton.

3-1 Everton. Come on.

Above all, this is a test of if Martinez still has the dressing room today. If he's a winner, we win today (well, duh) because it's a must-win game.

I can see us battling over the line 2-1, as at some point professional pride must kick in for the players and they'll scrap a game out.

Can't disagree with that, mate. Baffling stuff.

Cos Kone was broken.

Surely you don't replace an injured £5m striker with a £28m one???

What makes you think that wil happen EVER

Because El Capitain is a natural progressive manager bringing a new fangled all singing all dancing philosophy of system to the school of science and will muller all and sundry that try to stand against it. All that has been happening is him giving us supporters some banter for the past couple of months - the real deal starts today. Definitive sexual football, ladelled out in hot steaming portions, lap it up and let it warm you from the inside.

Strikers are there to score goals. He singlehandedly scored and set up both goals vs west ham and Wolfsburg coincidentally our only decent performances for a long while. Kone will not match his scoring record.

They're not though, they're also there to be part of the attacking unit. This isn't 1986 where you had goal hangers who could sniff out chances. To be an effective striker at this level you have to be able to bring your teammates into the game. Lukaku, by and large, fails utterly in this.

At the moment, our game is endless sequences of lateral and reverse passes interspersed with the odd defensive catastrophe. There is not a striker in the world who could lead the line for our current brand of turdball.
