it could be that having not won anything or threatened to in a quarter of a century, and not having any players who drive replica shirt sales (a Zlatan, for example) we aren't that relevant to the discerning international glory hunter.

If our colonial cousins are having difficulty in obtaining their official merch they may wish to try here.

Again if you’re with a fashionable brand, it attracts marketable people to promote your stuff. There’s talk of Lebron James promoting the new
Liverpool Nike gear, they’re being linked with Mbappe on the back of it. Under Armour are associated with Anthony Joshua, Adidas with all kinds and so on. They’re plastered all over bus stops, billboards, train stations etc.. People buy the stuff because of that.

Yeah because the average football fan who wants to buy a kit for themselves or their kid visits the club website to do so. Go to a park or 4G pitch in Liverpool tonight, they’ll be kids there in Liverpool kits, Everton kits and loads of European clubs (Barca, Juventus). You’ll probably see more in Barcelona gear than in Everton. Are you telling me there’s more Barca fans in Liverpool than Everton? Or maybe it’s because it’s fashionable to be seen in Nike and Barcelona stuff? Do you reckon those kids went to Barca direct to buy the kit or just walked into the nearest JD/Sports Direct and picked it up off the shelf? It’s easier to buy a Barcelona kit in Liverpool, than it is to buy an Everton kit. So if it’s difficult here, what chance have we got of shifting them to fans across the other side of the world who can only order online?

Football clothing is a fairly inelastic market. If Abdiduz or Noke made it 90% of the sales would still come rolling in. Because we're morons. I would imagine (not having any data to hand) that success on the pitch is what drives sales (on a global level) rather than its aesthetic qualities.

Look at it this way, when I moved to Cumbria for work you never saw a Chelsea or a Manchester City shirt. Can't flipping move for them now (Liverpool and United were always ubiquitous).
Yeah there's some merit in that. I agree with a lot of others though, that these things matter to kids. The less there is to be proud of about wearing their Everton kit the less likely they are to want to do it. The less they want to do it, the less inclined they are to support us. The less likely they are to support us, the less money we make in the long run, the less money we make in the long run the less likely we are to be successful.

I couldn't care less who makes our kits, I haven't worn anything Everton related since I was about 12, but I remember when I was that age and I used to be mocked because we had sponsors nobody had heard of and all that stuff. I remember that I really wished we had a Nike kit with Samsung or something on it that people recognised. It's going to be hard to encourage local kids to support Everton at the moment, our neighbours are world champions and look likely to romp the league, we haven't won a game against them for 10 years and their reserves just battered us. We can't even really just take them to the game to indoctrinate them because every week's a sell out. Having kits that look second class isn't a big deal to you and me, but if you're eight years old and even embarrassed by the kit make, just what is going to encourage you to support Everton right now?

Why are Barca fashionable and attractive to Nike? Because they have top players and win lots of stuff. Which is also why they're in sports direct.

I guarantee if Carlisle United won the European Cup the situation would be the same.

Yer arl fella telling you if you want a Liverpool kit you'll be buying it yourself and sleeping in the shed?

I think he’s referring to younger kids, especially in schools. No kid in this city walks around with Hummel gear on. No parent in Liverpool would dress their kids in gear like that.

No Hummel gear is available here but if it had an Everton badge on kids who are Everton fans would wear it.

Le Coq are hardly at the top end of sporting brands either but their stuff sold well when we had them as kit supplier a few years back.

I would have loved an Everton Le Coq kit in the same style as the Saint Etienne and Fiorentina ones of a season or two back, they were proper classy.

But we don't even always have that do we? There'll be loads of people on here who have got a red for a dad, but chose to support Everton. That will be happening less and less at the moment. My nephew is 8, my sister is a blue and her fella is a red, they're not married and they agreed that the kid would have his dad's surname and be brought up a blue. It was a compromise. He really doesn't want to be a blue at the moment though. He had a brief bit of pride last summer because Pickford was everyone's hero, but at the moment he's just sick of getting mocked in school and he tells everyone he supports Juventus. There's a very real chance that he'll grow up a red despite our best efforts. Anything that helps to stop that is important.

On a more boring note, I remember reading an article at the start of the season (think it was the athletic) that said the likes of Adidas, Nike and puma will only go big on clubs who are winning / got a big fan base and the rest of the teams wearing their gear get an average of about £300k per season. Bit of a myth the big dough apparently.

You missed the point. Even if we won the European Cup and were sponsored by Hummel, we’d struggle to shift kits because the brand isn’t fashionable and they haven’t got the manufacturing department to make the volume of kits to supply large sports retailers.

Ive got no issue with Hummel or Umbro, I haven’t bought a kit since one 2 one was on the front of it, but I’ll buy my kids the kits regardless of who makes them, but I’d buy more if the brand was something more fashionable because my kids wear Nike and Under Armour gear - because there
mates at school wear Nike and Under Armour.

The club needs to improve this side of things if they’re serious about competing with the top 6 off the field. These smaller brands might make us a bespoke nice kit, but you struggle to buy it after the launch because half the stuffs sold out in kids sizes and it’s a 12 week wait for extra stock, not only that but you can only buy it off Everton.

The clubs a business, we should be looking to be as profitable as possible, if the club haven’t even got the stock to meet the demands of its core fans, what chance have we got of got of meeting the demands of a wider market?

If only there was some way that anybody, wherever they are in the world, could get hold of Everton gear without having to come to the city... I mean, in a dream world it could be done by computers and delivered to their door.

Apparently there’s big import taxes to pay. When Liverpool were in court with new balance, a lot of the far eastern / Australians were saying that new balance couldn’t get a shirt in any shops out there and the only option was to pay more in import taxes than what the shirt actually cost.

Fair enough, I've not got kids so what the hell would I know.

The last 2 paras I agree with completely.
