The calf injury that kept him out of the Huddersfield game late January when there was an offer on the table said a lot about where his head was. No doubt there were promises made at that time about the reasons why we couldn’t sell so late in the window, but if he kept his head, performed well, if a bid came in the summer that matched a certain valuation we’d accept his ambition to leave and play CL etc. He did his part, played probably his most effective performances in a Blue shirt, went past players and looked to create opportunities further up the pitch rather than simply win and retain the ball.

It’s an evolution at Everton, we will see more of this, making decisions on players at a certain age and depth of contract to offset the losses on less successful purchases. He wanted to go, his value would only depreciate in time...we bought well, taking advantage of his clause from Villa and sold at a price that represents a healthy return. Of course we will miss what he brought to the team, especially last six months, but thinking he would go and improve/keep that intensity if he felt we had reneged on a certain promise is fanciful. It was a commercial decision, not a sporting one at the end of the day. No doubt we would have wanted to keep him, but his head was turned and he had done his part of the bargain inJanuary.

Probably a player who will become better in the memory the longer we don’t progress on the pitch as we’d like, but we’ll have to get used to it. This policy of buying at a price cheaper than we sell is the usual to our club...and when it happens, we ain’t sure it’s the right thing to do. Rather it was Gana than say Richarlison, but that day will come no doubt....and then it’ll be a bigger problem than this game one.

Like we had any say in the Rooney transfer?...He wanted out,we where skint and United had the dough. Our hands where completely tied,Fergie knew that Stretford would engineer that move and he did. Didn't matter who negotiated.
We had the hottest property in English football and he was handed over by Kenwright.

The lad wanted to leave we were on the bones of are Arse as a club and man Utd at the time were up there with the best teams in Europe .so enlighten us oh great one how would you of kept Rooney

Perfect transfer really. Showed class and maturity when he didn’t get his move in January. Got his move for a very decent fee abit he is a fantastic player.

Shows that players can come to Everton and can progress to a higher level.
We won’t be mugged off by teams money wise and won’t get in the way of players if valuation is met and replacements sorted
