I think the West has a perfect right to protect its values on its own territory, whether it's on Female Genital Mutilation, anti Semitism, LGBT rights - whatever. I don't think it should even try to impose its values on other countries / systems: it would be a foolish and doomed venture.

I can promise not to organise a gay Snog Fest in the Al Aqsa Mosque. and would like a little reciprocity on the part of fundamentalists of whatever creed / philosophy!

Religious dogma was also to blame for the people, who flew two planes into the twin towers, and various other acts of terrorism, in the name of religion over the years.

The moral of the story i guess, is that this world would be a better place without religion.

Corky, it is usually not religious creeds or teachings that are to blame. It is the inherent weakness of some human beings who choose to interpret to suit their own agendasof hatred.

As Ghandi said "I love your Christ but not some of your Christians " or words to that effect.

You think it is???

Who somebody chooses to love, or how they identify themselves is not a matter for policy. Anyone who thinks sexuality or gender identity should be governed or in any way censored is 100% in the wrong. There is no nuance or grey area.

Must be great to live in eutopia mate.

On planet earth however it's clearly a political issue, otherwise there wouldn't have had to have been a constant legal battle on multiple issues over the past 60 years or more just in the UK alone. Legal battles to overturn laws or to create new ones, laws passed by....

Politicians...

Penny dropped yet that it's a political issue?

That's just using the UK as an example, go any country in the world and the laws can vary wildly on the subject, hell in the US it can vary from.state to state.

Of course you can, it's a free country, or at least it is until the Nazis take over.
theyve already taken over. they just didnt advertise it because its kept under wraps. someone who blew the whistle was hounded out of the country, remember this? `God save the Queen, the facist regime...`

Fair point, condescending though you chose to be for some reason.

The fact is though, just because politicians have decided that others’ sexuality and gender identity is their domain, that doesn’t make it so.

When I hear about abhorrent homophobic and transphobic views, I don’t check current legislation to see whether or not I agree with them.

I’m well aware that there are disgusting policies in the US, and supposedly less developed countries, surrounding gender and sexuality but all that proves is that homophobia and transphobia are rife at the highest levels of politics there. Monetary and fiscal policies are for politicians; who someone chooses to love or be is most certainly not and I won’t ever be swayed on that.
